Introduction
The Apostles’ Creed reads in part:
使徒信条ではこのように書かれてあります

I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
全能の父、天と地の創造主である神を信じます -
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
父のひとり子、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストを信じます。主は聖霊によってやどり、おとめマリアから生まれました。 -
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again.
ポンティオ・ピラトのもとで苦しみを受け、十字架につけられて死に、葬られ、陰府（よみ）に下り三日目に死者のうちから復活しました。
Today, we’re going to look into the next part of the creed. It says:
今日は使徒信条の次の部分を見てみます。このように書かれてあります。

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit . . .
天にのぼり、全能の父なる神の右に座したまえり。かしこよりきたりて生ける者と死にたる者とを審きたまわん。我は聖霊を信ず

Christ is seated on His throne
キリストはその王座に座っている
Jesus came to earth from heaven in great humility; He returned to heaven in triumph and glory, having accomplished all that was necessary for salvation.
イエス様は謹んで、天国から地上にこられました。そして救いに必要なことを全て成し遂げて勝利と栄光を掲げ、天国に凱旋したのです。
The doctrine of the ASCENSION assures us that Christ has been exalted and glorified, and that His power and glory can be revealed and reflected in our lives. The creed states that Jesus now sits at the right hand of God. This suggests special status and that Jesus accomplished everything the Father had set for Him to do.
昇天の教えは、キリストが頂点におり、彼の力と栄光が私たちの人生に表れ反映されることを確信させてくれます。使徒信条では「全能の父なる神の右に座したまえり」と書かれてあります。このことはキリストの特別な地位を表す一方、キリストは父なる神様が望んでいたことを全て成し遂げたということも示しています。
Thinking about the ascension is a helpful way of making sure that our outlook on life is right. It helps us recall that our destiny does not lie on this earth but with the ascended Christ, who has gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us. He is waiting for us now. This gives us a new perspective on the chores of everyday life. It sets before us a vision that keeps us going. It is like an oasis in the desert—vital refreshment in the midst of the heat of life.
昇天について考えることは、私たちの人生における将来の展望を確信することにも役立ちます。それは私たちの運命はこの地球上にではなく昇天したキリストにあることを思い出せてくれます。キリストが先に行って私たちのために場所をとってくれています。そして私たちの帰りを待っています。この考え方は日々の仕事や家事に新しい人生観を与えます。励ましになる展望となります。砂漠にあるオアシスのようなものです。人生の熱い戦いにおいての重要な飲み物であり食べ物です。

Christ is the coming Judge
キリストは審判する方としてまた再臨します
The creed states that Jesus “will come again to judge the living and the dead.”
使徒信条では「かしこよりきたりて生ける者と死にたる者とを審きたまわん」と書かれてあります。
(Also, 1 Peter 4:4~6)
In Warren Wiersbe’s book, Meet Yourself in the Psalms, he tells about a frontier town where a horse bolted and ran away with a wagon carrying a little boy. Seeing the child in danger, a young man risked his life to catch the horse and stop the wagon.
ワーレン・ウィアーズブの本「Meet Yourself in the Psalms」では、彼がある国境の町にいたときに起こったことについて書かれています。ある馬が馬車に子供がいたにも関わらず逃げ出してしまいました。その事態を見た青年が馬車を追いかけ、自分の命を危険にさらす行為であると理解していながら馬車を止めようとしました。
The child who was saved grew up to become a lawless man, and one day he stood before a judge to be sentenced for a serious crime. The prisoner recognized the judge as the man who, years before had saved his life; so he pled for mercy on the basis of that experience.
助けられた子供は無法者な大人になり、ある日重大な犯罪を起こしたため裁判官の前に立っていました。すると彼はその裁判官が昔自分を助けてくれた人だと気づき、そのことを語った上で慈悲を乞いました。
But the words from the bench silenced his plea: “Young man, then I was your savior; today I am your judge, and I must sentence you to be hanged.” One day Jesus Christ will say to rebellious sinners, “During that long day of grace, I was the Savior, and I would have forgiven you. But today I am your Judge. Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire!”
しかし裁判官の答えは彼を沈黙させました。「青年よ！その当時私はあなたの救い主だった。今日は私はあなたの審判です。だから絞首刑にするしかないのです」いつかイエス・キリストに反抗する罪人に対してもこう言います「その長い恩寵の日々で私は救い主だった。その時許してあげたのに。しかし、今日は私の審判です。永遠の炎の中へ行きなさい！」
Many Christians find the idea of judgment deeply threatening. I hope these three (3) points may help us come to terms with it.
多くのクリスチャンはこの審判の概念に恐怖を感じます。今から述べる三つの視点を考えて受け入れることにしましょう。

First, we are judged by Someone who knows us totally.
まず、自分のことを全て知っている方に審判されます
We need not fear a superficial judgment based on inadequate knowledge of us and our situation. We can be honest about ourselves with God in a way that is impossible with other people. We can trust Him that He is fair in His judgment.
自分の状況に関する知識が十分にないことが引き起こす、うわべだけの審判を恐れる必要はありません。他の人にはできないかもしれませんが、神様にはありのままの自分で接することができます。神様の審判は公平であることを信用できます。

Second, we are judged by Someone who is passionately committed to us
次に私たちのことを情熱的に貢献している方に審判されます
The cross reveals God’s love for us as well as His judgment on us. Jesus Himself was condemned by biased judges, hostile crowds and an indifferent public prosecutor; we, on the other hand, will be judged by One who cares deeply for us and is sympathetic toward us.
十字架は神様の裁きだけでなく、神様の愛も表しています。イエス様自身が不平な裁判官、反感を抱えた群衆と無関心な検察官によって裁かれました。その一方で、私たちは私たちのことを深く愛し、同情の念を抱えている方に裁かれるのです。

Third, we are judged by Someone we know and trust.
最後に、私たちが知っていて信用している方に審判されます。
We are already judged by our attitudes toward Jesus. Thus, we are not judged on the basis of something unknown, but on the basis of our response to Jesus Christ.
私たちはすでにイエス様に対する態度によって審判されています。だから知られていないことによって審判されているのではなくイエス・キリストに対する自分の反応によって審判されています。
We have already been judged and know the outcome of that judgment (“Whoever believes in him is not condemned”); what remains is the confirmation and enactment of that judgment.
私たちはすでに審判され、その審判の結果も知っています「イエス様を信じるものには有罪の宣告がない」；残っているのはその審判の確認と実施だけです。
For the believer, our Lord Jesus will come as a judge but not to condemn us. Rather, He is much like a judge in the Olympics. He will personally give us His rewards. The apostle Paul confessed:
信者にとってイエス様が審判として来られますが、私たちを有罪にはしません。もはやオリンピックの審判のように報酬を与えるために来ます。弟子のパウロはこのように述べました
I get excited whenever I think about the fact that Christ will return. There is joy because we know He is the true Ruler and Judge of this world and of this universe. He will eventually and finally vindicate us all from this unbelieving world and grants us His reward. The question is: Do we “long for his appearing”?
私はイエス様が再臨することを考えるとワクワクします。イエス様はこの世界の支配者であり審判であることを知ると喜びがあります。最終的にイエス様は私たちをこの世界から救い、その報酬をくれるのです。問題は「私たちはイエス様の再臨を待ち望んでいるでしょうか？」ということです。

The Holy Spirit
聖霊
The creed states, “I believe in the Holy Spirit.”
使徒信条では「我は聖霊を信ず」と書かれてあります。
The trinitarian structure of the Apostles’ Creed is now complete. Having dealt with faith in God the Father and God the Son, the creed turns to the Holy Spirit.
使徒信条の三位一体の構造がこれで完成します。父なる神と子なる神に信仰を置くことに焦点をおいてから、使徒信条は聖霊に焦点を当てます。
Gregory of Nazianzus: “The deity of the Holy Spirit ought to be clearly recognized in Scripture. Look at these facts: Christ is born; the Spirit is His forerunner. Christ is baptized; the Spirit bears witness. Christ is tempted; the Spirit leads Him up. Christ ascends; the Spirit takes His place. What great things are there in the character of God which are not found in the Spirit? What titles which belong to God are not also applied to Him? He is called the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, the mind of Christ, the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of adoption, of truth, of liberty; the Spirit of wisdom, of understanding, of counsel, of might, of knowledge, of godliness, of the fear of God. This only begins to show how unlimited He is.”
ナジアンゾスの聖グレゴリオスはこのように書きました：「聖書において聖霊の神性をはっきりと認めるべきです。事実を確認しましょう。イエス様が生まれた。その先に聖霊がいた。イエス様が洗礼を受けた。そこに聖霊が証人としていた。イエス様が誘惑された。そこに聖霊が彼を導いた。イエス様が昇天した。その座に聖霊がついた。聖霊にはなくて神様にはある偉大なものは何でしょうか。神様に捧げるどんな名が聖霊にはないのでしょうか。聖霊のことは『神の霊』『キリストの霊』『キリストの精神』『主の霊』『養子、真実、自由の霊』『知恵、理解、忠告、力、知識、神聖の霊』と呼ばれているのではないでしょうか。これらのことは聖霊の無限性を示しています。
The Holy Spirit’s distinctive role is to fulfill what we may call a floodlight ministry in relation to the Lord Jesus Christ.
聖霊の明白な役割はいわば、主イエスキリストに照明を照らすことです。
J.I. Packer shares this illustration. I remember walking to church one winter evening to preach on the words, “He will glorify me” (John 16:14), seeing the building floodlit as I turned a corner, and realizing that this was exactly the illustration my message needed. When floodlighting is well done, the floodlights are placed so that you do not see them; in fact, you are not supposed to see where the light is coming from; what you are meant to see is just the building on which the floodlights are trained. The intended effect is to make it visible when otherwise it would not be seen for the darkness, and to maximize its dignity by throwing all its details into relief so that you can see it properly. This perfectly illustrated the Spirit’s new covenant role. He is, so to speak, the hidden floodlight shining on the Savior. Or think of it this way. It is as if the Spirit stands behind us, throwing light over our shoulder on to Jesus who stands facing us. The Spirit’s message to us is never, “Look at me; listen to me; come to me; get to know me”, but always, “Look at Him, and see His glory; listen to Him and hear His word; go to Him and have life; get to know Him and taste His gift of joy and peace.” The Spirit, we might say, is the matchmaker, the celestial marriage broker, whose role it is to bring us and Christ together and ensure that we stay together. How do you see the Holy Spirit active in your own life?
自分の人生において聖霊の働きをどのように見ていますか
We have a very limited time to hit the high points of the richness of the Christian understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit.
クリスチャンとして聖霊の働きを理解し、その豊かさをものにするには時間が限られています。

The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin.
聖霊が私たちに有罪の宣告をします。
Jesus promised His disciples the continued presence and power of the Spirit after He had left them. The Spirit would convict the world of its guilt and sin, and convince them of the reality of judgment.
イエス様が弟子たちに聖霊の存在と力を約束したのです。聖霊が世界の罪を意識させ、その裁きの現実を確信させる役割を果たします。

The Holy Spirit is a pledge of our salvation
聖霊は私たちの救いの誓約です
The basic meaning of pledge is “down payment” or “token of commitment.” God places His Spirit within our hearts as a down payment: it demonstrates that we are His and promises that there is more to come.
「誓約」の基本的な意味は「頭金」または「誓約の証拠」です。神様は誓約の証拠として私たちの心に聖霊をおいています。それは私たちが神様のものであることを証明し、今後多くの祝福が来ることも約束しています。

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter
聖霊は私たちを慰めてくれる存在です。
As Jesus prepared to leave His disciples, He promised to send them a Comforter.
イエス様は弟子の元を離れる前に、慰めの存在を送ることを約束しました
The Greek word parakletos is usually translated as “comforter,” “advocate” or “counselor.” The Greek word for comfort can also bear the meaning “urge on” or “encourage to do greater things.” The Spirit prods us, encouraging and empowering us to do things we otherwise would not and could not do.
ギリシャ語の単語「parakletos」は「慰安者」「仲裁者」「カウンセラー」と訳されます。英語の「Comfort」のギリシャ語訳には「追い立てる」「さらに偉大なことへの励まし」という意味があります。聖霊が私たちに普通ではできないような偉大なことをするように励ましてくれるのです。
Please pray for greater sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s prompting in your life and in the life of our church fellowship.
自分の人生において、そして教会での生活のためにも、聖霊の声を聞こえることができるよう、そしてそれに従うことができるよう祈りましょう。
Conclusion
Christ ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us. He is coming again to judge the living and the dead. But, for now, He is with us through the Holy Spirit who is at work in our hearts and lives.
キリストは私たちの場所を用意するために昇天したのです。生きている方も亡くなった方も審判するために再臨します。けれど、今は聖霊を通して私たちの心と人生に働いています。
