We made it! After four years of working our way through the books of the Old Testament – about one a month – we have finally made it to the end!
とうとうやりました！過去４年間に渡って読み続けてきた旧約聖書を、一ヶ月に一冊ずつ読んでいましたが、とうとう最後の書を迎えることになりました！
We have reached Malachi.
最後の書はマラキ書です。
Who was here when we started this series in 2013?
２０１３年からこの書のシリーズをはじめましたが、２０１３年の当時からいた人は、みなさん、この中で誰かいますか？
Malachi is the last of the twelve minor prophets, who followed the four major prophets, who sort of followed the wisdom literature, which followed the history books, which followed the Pentateuch, which is where it all began.
マラキ書は１２の小予言書の中の最後の書です。そしてマラキは賢者の書を模範にした４つの大預言書に沿って書かれており、モーセの五書に沿って書かれた歴史書も参考にし、実にマラキ書はそのような箇所から冒頭が始まっています。
We have seen how God created the world [image],
神がどのようにこの世を創造したのかを見ました。
created mankind [image],
そして人間を創造し、
called Abraham to father a holy nation [image],
アブラハムという父なる存在を全国民に示しました。
how that nation ended up in Egypt [image],
そしてその民はエジプトにたどり着き、
how they were delivered out of Egypt [image],
砂漠が続くエジプトからどのように脱出することができたのか、
how they conquered the Promised Land [image],
そしてどのように約束の地を征服したのか、
how they were then unfaithful to God in the Promised Land [image],
その約束の地で彼らがいかに神に対して不誠実であったか、
how God warned them time after time to be faithful to Him and how they failed time after time to be faithful [image],
そして、神がなんども何度も繰り返し彼らに誠実になるようにと警告したにもかかわらず、彼らは何度も過ちを犯し続けました。
how they were eventually exiled into Babylon because of their repeated unfaithfulness [image],
彼らは何度も犯した不誠実な過ちによって、最終的にバビロニアに追放されてしまいました。
and how a remnant were brought back to Israel to rebuild the nation [image],
どのように生存者はイスラエルに戻され再び民を再建することになったのか、
and how they once again neglected to faithfully serve God.
そして、どうして彼らは再び、誠実に神に仕えることを軽視するようになってしまったのか、
Malachi prophesied at this final period of unfaithfulness in the Old Testament.
マラキは旧約聖書の最終章で、この不誠実さのことを予言しています。
If there is one overriding theme in the book it is honouring God.
もしこの書の中で最も重要なテーマがあるとすれば、それは 神を敬うことです。
I believe honour is becoming a neglected virtue in our world and the reason for it is this:
honour has to be given by another person.
私は、名誉や尊厳という美徳が今日の私たちの世界では無視されつつあると思います。それはなぜかというと、名誉や尊厳は他の人から与えられるものだからです。
You can’t honour yourself (unless you happen to be the Trinity).
自分自身のことを名誉に思ったり尊敬することはできません。これは、あなたがキリスト教で言う三位一体でない限りはと言うことですが。
It has to be bestowed on you by someone else.
なぜなら名誉とは他の誰かから贈られたり、授けられたりするものだからです。
But as our world becomes increasingly self-centred, the possibility for honouring others becomes lost.
しかし私たちの世界は自己中心的な人々が増え続け、他の人々を表彰したり讃えたりすることが、どういうことなのかがわからなくなってきているのです。
In chapter 1, Malachi cautions us to be faithful in honouring God.
マラキ書は私たちに忠実に神を敬うようにと忠告しています。
We have to acknowledge that if it’s possible for us, as Christians, to honour God, then it’s also possible for us, as Christians, to dishonour God.
クリスチャンである私たちが神を敬うことができるなら、クリスチャンである私たちはまた、神を侮辱することもできるのです。
And this is what Malachi was talking about.
マラキ書が私たちに言っていたことはこれなのです。
God was condemning his own people because they were dishonouring Him with their sacrifices.
人々が神を侮辱していたので、神は自らの民である人々に犠牲を払えと咎めていたのです。
The same applies to us today because although we don’t carve up cattle, we still bring personal sacrifices before God every day and we need to do this faithfully.
同じことが今日の私たちにも言えます。なぜなら、牛を切り裂いたりしなくても、私たちは個人的な犠牲を神に払い、神に捧げ物をすることができます。そして神に捧げ物をする時は誠実さを持って行う必要があります。
1. We bring the sacrifice of our money and possessions
私たちのお金と持っている物をささげる
When we fail to tithe to God we are declaring in a very countable way that we don’t fully trust God.
神に十分に献金ができないなら、それは私たちが神を十分に信用していないということを明言しているのと同じことです。
When we do tithe to God, He blesses us.
私たちが献金を捧げる時、神は私たちを祝福してくださいます。
It’s not always easy because it requires sacrifice and a step of faith but it is that straightforward.
献金することは犠牲を払わなければなりませんし、誠実さを要求されるので簡単なことではありません。
1. We bring the sacrifice of our time
私たちの時間をささげる
Spending unhurried, quality time before the Lord daily, giving up our free time to serve others, and honouring the Sabbath are all ways that we can honour God with our time.
ゆっくりした、充実した時間を毎日神と過ごすこと、私たちの時間を使って他の人々を助けること、そして安息日を尊重することは、私たちの時間を捧げて神を尊重するということに尽きます。
1. We bring the sacrifice of our energy/strength
私たちの活力/力をささげる
This relates to the zeal with which we honour God.
私たちの力を捧げるということは、私たちの熱心さを持って神を讃えるということになります。
When we sing praises here in church with lukewarm hearts we dishonour God.
教会で熱意を持って賛美歌を歌わないのなら、それは神を侮辱していることになります。
When we praise with all our hearts we honour God.
心から熱意を持って賛美歌を歌えば、神を讃えることになります。
Whether we’re reaching out to others with the gospel, mopping the floor or resting, we honour God with a righteous use of our energy.
福音を持って他の人々に伝道活動をしたり、床を磨いたり、また休息したりすることは、私たちの活力を正しく義によって使っていることになり、神を讃えていることになります。
We’re not to live lives of sloth.
私たちは怠け者のような人生を過ごすために生きているのではありません。
We are to be energetic and zealous for God.
私たちは活動的に、神のために情熱を持って生きるために生きているのです。
We are to honour God with our sacrifices.
私たちは神を讃え、神に捧げるために存在しているのです。
In chapter 2, beyond sacrifices, Malachi goes on to talk about three other ways that we can truly revere (or honour) God with our lives.
このような捧げ物の他に、マラキ書は私たちの生涯を通して神を讃える三つの方法について説明しています。

これらのことは、みなさんにとって大切なことでしょうか？
Is it important to you that God is honoured and revered in your life.
神が讃えられ、崇められることは、あなたの人生にとって大切なことでしょうか？
Is it a top priority? I hope so!
一番大切なことでしょうか？私は、みなさんに、本当にそのとうりだ、一番大切だと思ってもらいたいです。
These three ways of revering God are tucked neatly into one single verse in Malachi chapter 2:6.
神を敬う三つの方法はマラキ書の２章の６節という一節にうまく表現されています。
1. True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips.
2. He walked with me in integrity and uprightness, and
3. he turned many from iniquity.
彼の口には、まことの律法があり、そのくちびるには、不義が見られなかった。彼は平安と公義とをもって、わたしと共に歩み、また多くの人を不義から立ち返らせた。 マラキ書2:6
Let’s break this down. これを詳しくみてみましょう。
1. We revere God by speaking and living by true instruction.
私たちはまことの律法を語り、まことの律法によって生きることで神をあがめます。
This is one of the reasons we are studying the Book of Romans.
このことがローマ人への手紙を学ぶ理由の一つです。
It’s to put true instruction of the gospel in our hearts and on our lips.
私たちの心や口に、どのように真の福音を伝えるかを教え込む必要があります。
Our words must be true, gracious, kind and edifying – all the time, to all people – those who are closest to us and those who are strangers.
私たちの言葉は、真実を表し、どんな時でも、親しい人でも、知らない他人でも、全ての人に優しく、啓発的な言葉であるべきです。
Godly speech is a mark of maturity and an indication that we are honouring God.
神を敬う話し方は成熟しているしるしであり、神を敬っていることを示します。
2. We revere God by turning others from iniquity.
私たちは人を不正からそむけることによって神をあがめます。
There is a ‘Good Samaritan’ call on our lives to care for those who are hurting, to find and bring back those who are lost, to speak the gospel of Christ gently and lovingly into people’s lives, to go into all the world teaching people about the kingdom of God and baptising people.
「善きサマリア人」という名の召があります。それは、傷ついた人や、神様から遠くなってしまい、さまよっている人をもう一度呼び戻したり、他の国に行き、神の御国の教えを説き、人々を洗礼し、人々の人生にもう一度優しく愛に満ちた神の福音を吹き込んであげようというものです。
3. We revere God by having integrity of character.
私たちは人格が誠実であることによって神をあがめます。
If we speak the gospel or try to teach people but have poor character no-one will listen, nor should they.
福音を述べ、人々に教えを説きたい、しかしそのような立派な人格を持ち合わせていないので誰もあなたの話を聞こうとしない。
“Integrity of character”.
「高貴な人格」になりなさい。
Sounds good but what does this really mean?
聞こえはいいですが、どういう意味でしょうか？
It means that we know right from wrong and we choose to do right; that we have moral courage and can be trusted by others to say and do what is good; and that we are pure of heart. Again, all the time, toward all people.
その意味は、間違いから正しいことを知る、そして正しいことを選択する、すなわち私たちには道徳的な強い観念が備わっていて、真摯な気持ちを持ち、正しいことを言ったり、行ったりすることによって他の人々から信頼を得ることができるということ。繰り返し言いますが、どんな時でも、誰にでもということです。
Even when we’re alone.
たとえ私たちが一人でいてもということです。
I’ve spent this week on my own.
私は、今週、家で一人ぼっちで過ごしています。
It’s been an interesting exercise for me.
今回初めて、家族がいなく、一人ぼっちで時間を過ごすという興味深い経験をすることになりました。
Toy and Remi are in Australia with Niki.
トイとレミはニキと一緒にオーストラリアにいます。
And I’ve been very conscious of how I spend my time because character is often reflected not just in our interactions with others but also when no-one else is around to see.
そして、自分一人での時間の過ごし方をよく考えました。なぜなら、人間の性格とは他の人々との関わりに現れるだけでなく、周りに人がいない一人ぼっちの時にも自分の性格が現れるからです。
I’ve considered that there are three ways I can spend my time:
私は自分の時間を過ごす次の三つの方法を考えました。
* I can run wild and become a party animal down in Shinsaibashi
心斎橋に行って、パーティーをしまくる。
* I can bum around a bit in my free time playing solitaire or watching Youtube
一人の時間を使って、ソリティアというトランプゲームやYoutubeをみまくる。
* Or, I can honour God with my time.
もしくは、自分の時間を神様を賛美することに使う。
I’ve been trying to honour God with my time.
今、自分の時間を神を賛美することに使っています。
In chapter 3, Malachi talks about three more ways that we can revere/honour God.
マラキ書は神を敬い賛美する三つの方法についても話しています。
1. General attitude 一般的態度
2. Godly thoughts 神を敬う思考
3. Service 奉仕
1. Regarding general attitude, I’m starting to think that God might actually be Australian.
一般的な態度というと、もしかしたら神はオーストラリア人ではないかと思ったりします。
Because he says very clearly in the book of Malachi,
なぜなら神はマラキ書の中で、はっきりとこう言っているからです。
“Thou shalt not be a whinger”. 汝嘆くべからず
Do you remember what a whinger is?
whinger「ウインジャー」とはどういう意味だったか覚えていますか？
God doesn’t like whingers.
神は愚痴や泣き言を言う人は嫌いです。
When the Israelites were in Egypt they kept whinging.
イスラエル人がエジプトにいた時、彼らは愚痴や泣き言ばかりを言っていました。
When God delivered them out of Egypt they kept whinging.
神が彼らをエジプトから出した時、文句ばかり言っていました。
When they were going into the Promised land, they were whinging.
彼らが約束の地に向かっていた時も、彼らは愚痴っていました。
When they were taken out of the Promised Land, they were still whinging.
彼らは約束の地から出された時も、愚痴っていました。
In exile, of course, all they did was whinge.
追放された時はなおのこと、愚痴や泣き言だらけでした。
And then when God brought the remnant back to Israel, they were still whinging!
神が残存者をイスラエルに戻した時も、彼らはまだ泣き言を言っていました。
And God had had enough!
そして神の忍耐も底をつきました！
They had actually succeeded in making God weary.
彼らは実に、神を嘆かせることに成功したのです。
Can you imagine that?
想像できますか？
The same goes for today.
こんにちでも同じことは言えます。
Enough of saying ”life isn’t fair”, “why do they have it better than me?”, “where is God?”, “why do the evil prosper” and so on.
人生は公平ではない。なぜ、彼らは私よりも良いものを持っているのだ？神はどこにいるのか？なぜ、悪がはびこるのか？などなど、こんなことを言うのはもうたくさんです。
We are to put on an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. Rejoice in all things.
私たちは賛美と感謝の姿勢を身につけるべきです。すべてのことを喜びなさい。
2. Regarding active thoughts, Malachi writes,
活動的な考えについてマラキ書はこう書いています。
Then those who revered the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who revered the Lord and thought on his name. 3:16
そのとき、主を恐れる者は互に語った。主は耳を傾けてこれを聞かれた。そして主を恐れる者、およびその名を心に留めている者のために、主の前に一つの覚え書がしるされた。マラキ書3:16
“and thought on His name”. およびその名を心に
There is a call here for us to be thinking on the name of God as we live out our lives.
神の名を心に留め、いつも生きると言う召があります。
We are to pray “hallowed be Your Name”.
「神の御名があがめられますように」と私たちは祈ります。
We are to call on the Name of God for salvation.
救済のために神の御名を私たちは呼びます。
We are to never blaspheme the Name of God.
神の名前を決して冒涜したりしません。
And we are to always think on the name of God.
私たちは常に神の御名のことを考えます。
The name of God must influence all our thoughts, speech and decisions.
神の御名は私たちの思い、話し、決断のすべてに影響を及ぼさなければいけません。
3. Regarding service, we are to serve the Lord with gladness.
奉仕についてです。私たちは喜びをもって主に仕えるのです。
Whether we are speaking from the pulpit, banging on the drums, taking out the garbage, discipling a friend, cooking lunch or colouring in with the kids, we are to serve with gladness.
説教壇から話をしていても、ドラムを叩いていても、ゴミを出している時も、友達を鍛錬している時も、お昼ご飯を作っていても、子供たちと色ぬりをしていても、喜んで神に仕えるのです。
Let me quickly review what Malachi teaches us:マラキ書のおさらいをしましょう。
1. Be faithful in bringing before God our sacrifices of money, time and effort.
神の前にお金、時間、努力をささげることに忠実である
1. Revere God by holding on to true instruction, turning others from iniquity, and having integrity of character.
まことの律法を守り、人を不正からそむけ、誠実な人格をもつことによって神をあがめる
1. Honour God by having an attitude of praise, Godly thoughts and serving gladly.
賛美の姿勢、神を敬う思考を持ち、喜んで仕えることによって神をあがめる
The reward for such a life’s stunning:このような素晴らしい生活への報酬は次のように書かれています。
But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. Malachi 4:2
しかしわが名を恐れるあなたがたには、義の太陽がのぼり、その翼には、いやす力を備えている。あなたがたは牛舎から出る子牛のように外に出て、とびはねる。マラキ書4:2
My desire is for each of us to “know the festal shout of the Lord” (Psalm 89:15)
祭の日の喜びの声を知る, to “go out and frolic like well-fed calves” (Malachi 4:2) 牛舎から出る子牛のように外に出て, to be filled with the “unspeakable joy of the Holy Spirit” (1 Peter 1:8) 言葉につくせない、輝きにみちた喜びに.
Honour the Lord, and be rewarded.
主を褒め称え、報酬をいただきましょう。
