How well do you know you Bible? Can anyone tell me the 33rd book of the Bible? (Hint: it’s the 7th last book of the Old Testament)

Micah! It’s easy to lose sight of these minor prophets tucked away at the back of the OT. But they are there for a reason. Their writings are an important part of the Word of God and they have important implications for us today personally, politically and spiritually.
ミカ書です。旧約聖書の後ろのほうにある小預言者の書は見落としてしまいがちです。しかし理由があって聖書の中にあるのです。彼らが書いたことは神の御言葉の重要な一部であり、今日の私たちに個人的に、政治的に、霊的に重要な意味を持っています。
Let me share one verse from outside the book of Micah which sums up the overriding message of Micah.
ミカ書以外の書簡からミカ書の最も重要なメッセージをまとめた節を紹介しましょう。
Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Psalm 90:2

A Short History Lesson
Micah ministered around 700BC with Isaiah and Hosea so he was in very good company. Despite the faithfulness of these prophets, this was a real low point in Israel’s history. The people were far from God, living idolatrous lives. So around 730BC, most of Israel fell to Assyria. And by 700BC, all of Israel had been conquered by Assyria, and most of Judah had been overrun by Assyria. Only Jerusalem remained at that point and it was on very shaky ground.
ミカは700年BC頃、イザヤとホセアとともに宣教したので、良い仲間がいたわけです。

Three Messages from Micah ミカからの三つのメッセージ
There will be judgement against the unrighteous.
不義な者への裁きが下る
We looked at this last week. God will punish the transgressions of men. Last week we saw that where the glory of God increases, the judgement of God increases.
これは先週見たところです。神は人の罪を裁かれます。
神の栄光が増すところには神の裁きが増しますということを先週学びました。
We saw how Aaron’s sons and Ananias and Sapphira were struck down for their transgressions yet others in the Bible who did much worse things were let off. But they weren’t let off. They were still judged at a later time. Judgement delayed is not judgement avoided. There will be judgement against the unrighteous. And that’s what Micah prophesies at the beginning of his book:
アロンの息子たち、アナニヤとサッピラは彼らの罪のゆえ打ち倒されましたが、もっとひどいことをした人たちは放免されました。しかし放免されたのではなく、後に裁かれることになっているのです。すぐに裁かれないのは裁きを避けられているのとは違います。不義な者への裁きはきます。そのことをミカは最初に預言しているのです。
Look! The Lord is coming from his dwelling place;
he comes down and treads on the heights of the earth.
The mountains melt beneath him
and the valleys split apart,
like wax before the fire,
like water rushing down a slope.
All this is because of Jacob’s transgression,
because of the sins of the people of Israel.
Micah 1:3-5a
見よ、主はそのご座所から出てこられ、下ってきて地の高い所を踏まれる。
山は彼の下に溶け、谷は裂け、火の前のろうのごとく、坂に流れる水のようだ。
これはみなヤコブのとがのゆえ、イスラエルの家の罪のゆえである。ミカ書1:3-5a
This prophecy was soon fulfilled when first Samaria, then later Jerusalem, were taken from the Jews because of their failure to fear God and to serve Him alone. The Promised Land was never the Jews; it was always the Lord’s. He gave them conditional tenancy in His land, as His representatives and as His vessels to bring the light of God into the world. But if Israel were to become unfaithful (which they did), they would lose the land (which is what happened). This is what prophets like Micah and others warned about for a long, long time. And when Israel failed to heed their warnings, God was true to His Word in judgement.

2. It Ain’t Over Till God Says it’s Over

This is where we enter the really mysterious and wonderful ways of God. We see that Israel was duly punished and lost the Promised Land. It was over. The nation of Israel was finished. It had come to an end.
ここから神の不思議ですばらしいやり方に入ります。イスラエルが正当に裁かれ、約束の地を失ったことが分かります。これで終わりです。イスラエルという国は滅びました。終わりです。
But God. しかし神は。
The two great words that change everything. But God had a plan. But God is the great overseer of history. But God is from everlasting to everlasting and His promises and His purposes never fail.
この2つの言葉がすべてを変えます。しかし神には計画がありました。しかし神は偉大な歴史を監視される方です。しかし神はとこしえからとこしえまでおられ、神の約束と神の目的は決して果たされないことはありません。
Look at what God had Micah pen 700 years before the birth of Christ.
キリストが生まれる700年前に神がミカに書かせたことを見てみましょう。
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times….He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be our peace. Micah 5:2,4-5
しかしベツレヘム・エフラタよ、あなたはユダの氏族のうちで小さい者だが、イスラエルを治める者があなたのうちから／わたしのために出る。その出るのは昔から、いにしえの日からである。 彼は主の力により、その神、主の名の威光により、立ってその群れを養い、彼らを安らかにおらせる。今、彼は大いなる者となって、地の果にまで及ぶからである。 これは平和である。
I hope you can appreciate what an extraordinary prophecy this is. It’s not just a matter of Micah ‘getting it right’ with regards to a Messianic prophecy. This demonstrates once again that God is the Sovereign Lord from everlasting to everlasting. Looking 700 years into the future is nothing for God. Bringing terminating punishment for sin yet fulfilling promises of the future to the same group of people is possible for God.
これがどんなに特別な預言であるか分かってほしいと思います。ミカがメシヤに関する預言を正しく理解していたかという問題ではありません。これは神がとこしえからとこしえまですべてを治める主であることをもう一度実証しています。700年先を見ることは神にとってなんでもありません。同じ人々に罪の罰を打ち切り、これから先の約束を果たすことは神にはできることです。
But this isn’t just history. This sovereignty of God should be tremendously comforting for us. We live in very uncertain times.
しかしこれはただの歴史だけではありません。この神の支配は私たちにとって大きな励みになるべきです。私たちは将来への見通しがつかない時代に生きています。
I. Politically. We now have to come to grip with two new words: President Trump. I have no intention of expressing a political view from the pulpit. But these two words make many people nervous. Further afield, in Syria, in Yemen, in Nigeria and many other countries, whole communities of people are being wiped out. In Russia, China, the Philippines there is tremendous political instability. Again, my intention here is not to make a political statement but to state the obvious: we live in a politically highly volatile world.
政治的に。私たちは新しい二語に出くわすことになりました：トランプ大統領。説教壇から政治的見解を述べるつもりはありません。でもこの二語はたくさんの人々を不安にさせます。遠く離れたところ、シリア、イエメン、ナイジェリアや他のたくさんの国々では、町全体が壊滅されています。 ロシア、中国、フィリピンでは、極度に政情不安定です。もう一度言いますが、ここで政治的発言をするつもりはありません。でも明らかなことは、私たちは政治的にとても不安定な世界に住んでいるということです。
Yet none of this takes God by surprise. Though He has given mankind great freedom to make both terrible choices and good, praise God that He is still ultimately in control. He remains the Sovereign Lord, from everlasting to everlasting. We can, as Micah wrote, know peace because of God’s ultimate plan.
しかしこれらのことに神は驚いていません。神は人間にひどい選択、良い選択をする大きな自由を与えましたが、神が最終的に支配をされておられます。神はとこしえからとこしえまですべてを治める主です。ミカが書いたように、神の最終的なご計画があるので私たちは平安を知ることができるのです。
The sovereignty of God should be tremendously comforting for us for personal reasons.
神が支配されているということは個人的にも大きな励みになります。
II. Personal. 個人的に
Over the last week or so, we have been shaken by the news of Pastor David’s heart issues and the highly critical nature of his condition at the time. Praise God that He has brought Pastor David through. But it reminds us again that we live in a broken world of ill-health and accidents. We don’t know when sickness or even death will come. But praise God that He is still ultimately in control. He remains the Sovereign Lord, from everlasting to everlasting yet He can be petitioned and He answers our prayers!. We can, as Micah wrote, know peace despite uncertainties because of God’s ultimate plans and His intimate love for us.

神が支配されているということは霊的にも大きな励みになります。
III. Spiritual 霊的に
The demonstrations and the assurances that we see of God’s sovereignty in the book of Micah carry throughout the whole Bible.
ミカ書に見られる神の支配の実証と確信は聖書全体に見られます。
So when we read that 以下を読むと
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
神はそのひとり子を賜わったほどに、この世を愛して下さった。それは御子を信じる者が
ひとりも滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。ヨハネによる福音書3:16
we can know that it is true.
それが本当だと分かります。
Or when we read that 以下を読むと
There is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 2:5
神は唯一であり、神と人との間の仲保者もただひとりであって、それは人なるキリスト・イエスである。テモテへの手紙一2:5
we can know that it is true.

Or when we read that 以下を読むと
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

The book of Micah finishes on a word of hope consistent with that found elsewhere in the Bible.
ミカ書は聖書の別のところでもみられる同じ希望の言葉で終わっています。
3. Renewal is Real 新しくされることは事実
After sin has been dealt with, God makes the following assurance through Micah:
罪が対処されてから、神はミカを通して次にような確信を与えます。
Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
but delight to show mercy.
You will again have compassion on us;
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
You will be faithful to Jacob,
and show love to Abraham,
as you pledged on oath to our ancestors
in days long ago.
Micah 7:18-20
だれかあなたのように不義をゆるし、その嗣業の残れる者のために／とがを見過ごされる神があろうか。神はいつくしみを喜ばれるので、その怒りをながく保たず、 再びわれわれをあわれみ、われわれの不義を足で踏みつけられる。あなたはわれわれのもろもろの罪を／海の深みに投げ入れ、 昔からわれわれの先祖たちに誓われたように、真実をヤコブに示し、いつくしみをアブラハムに示される。ミカ書7:18-20
This prophecy was fulfilled in the man Jesus Christ who takes away the sin of the world, and who was a demonstration of God’s compassion on His people.
この預言は人となられたイエス・キリストのうちに成就しました。キリストは世の罪を取り除き、ご自分の民に神の憐れみを示されました。
What’s key is how this pardon, this compassion of God is effected in our lives. Because it’s [God’s pardon is] not automatic. And it doesn’t come randomly to special people. It must be actively chosen. Jesus said it best to Nicodemus. He said, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” John 3:3
大事なのは、この赦し、この神の憐れみが私たちにどのように達成されているかです。神の赦しは無意識のうちに起こることではないからです。イエスがニコデモに言われました。
イエスは答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも新しく生れなければ、神の国を見ることはできない」。ヨハネによる福音書3:3
Receiving the promises of God, life renewal, and a sure future are the fruit of spiritual rebirth through faith in Christ, who is the fulfillment of everything that Micah and all the other prophets wrote about. Let’s give thanks for that.
神の約束を受け入れること、人生の改新、確かな未来は、ミカや他の預言者たちが言ったことのすべてを成就されたキリストへの信仰を通して霊的に生まれ変わった実です。そのことに感謝しましょう。
