I was given a Christmas present a year or two ago.
一年か二年か前のことです。クリスマスプレゼントをもらいました。
It was a really good present. それは、とてもすてきなプレゼントでした。
I was really happy with it – in part because I chose it:)
とても嬉しく思いました。まあ、自分が選んだプレゼントだったからという理由もありましたが、、。
But it was a wonderful present and want to share it with you this evening.
でも、とても素敵なプレゼントだったので、今日はみなさんにそのことをお話したいと思います。
It’s a very large, beautiful book called ‘The Wonders of the World’. [image]
そのプレゼントは「世界の不思議」というタイトルの、大きな、とてもきれいな本でした。
And the book and its contents are really impressive.
そして、見た目もさることながら内容も素晴らしい本でした。
In it are some of the most incredible designs and structures you’ll ever see.
本の中にはとても信じがたい程に見たこともないような素晴らしいデザインが施された建造物が載っており、自然や創作された美しさが満載されていました。

In fact seven of these structures are so amazing that we refer to them as ‘The Seven Wonders of the World’
これらの七つの建造物が特に素晴らしく、「世界の七不思議」と言いたい程でした。
But there’s something about all these wonders that is lacking:
しかし、この不思議な建造物には何かが足りないと思えたのです。
they are all inanimate. それらは、すべて無生のものばかりです。
They’re just buildings. They have no life in them.
ただの建築物ばかりで、生命は何ら感じられません。
And life is the real wonder. Life is the truly amazing thing in our universe.
命あるものが本当の感嘆すべきものです。命こそ、この世界で感嘆されるべきものなのです。
No matter how hard we humans try, no matter what we imagine or what we plan, we can only build using matter that has already been created.
人間がいくら努力しても、どんなに、想像したり計画したりしても、私たち人間に作れる物はこの世にすでに存在している物からしか作れないのです。
We just cannot create life. 私たち人間には命はつくれません。
We can procreate! But we cannot create life itself. もちろん、子を授かり子孫をもうけることはできます。しかし、生命そのものを自分たちの手でつくること、創造することはできません。
Because creation is the domain of God.
なぜなら創造は神の領域だからです。
Look at these…
これらの映像をみてください。これ、これ、これ、そしてこれらの写真。
Man cannot create these things and the wonders of man that we looked at earlier are peanuts compared to the wonders of God.
人間はこれらのものを作ることはできません。ましてや、人体の謎や、先ほど見たような映像は、神様の不思議にくらべるとちっぽけなものです。
It says in the Bible that God spoke the word and there was life.
聖書にはこう書かれています。神が御言葉をはなたれ、そして命が宿った。
God alone is the author of life. 神だけが命の創造者です。
God alone is the designer of life. 神のみが命をつくることができます。
The creation of life is His unique domain. 命の創造は神の特別な領域です。
And we were given life so that we could fellowship with God Himself.
そして私たちは神ご自身と交わるよう命を与えられました。
So we have this miracle of life, this unfathomable wonder of fellowship with God [image].
そうです、私たちにはこのように生命の奇跡が与えられました。この神との賛美という計り知れない不思議を与えられました。
But something has gone wrong with the miracle. Something has gone very wrong.
しかし、この奇跡に何かが起こってしまいました。何か間違いが起こってしまったのです。
We have disease which corrupts the flesh [image], 生身の体に病がおこります。
We have hatred which corrupts the soul. [image] 魂に良くない憎しみがやどります。
We see injury inflicted on people, sometimes on distant people we don’t know as in war [image],
人々に起こるけがや、時には遠いところで起こっている戦争など、
sometimes on people so close to us they are in our own family, [image].
時には私たちの身近かな人々、家族などにそんなことが起こります。
We have many means of self-harm like alcoholism [image], drug abuse [image], obesity [image], STDs [image], …
私たちは色んな自虐行為をします。例えばアルコール依存症、薬物乱用、肥満、性感染症などで自分自身を傷つけています。
We invent ways of hurting one another through lies, [image] gossip, bitterness, rage, infidelity, betrayal.
私たちはまた、お互いに嘘を付き合ったり、うわさ話をし合ったり、不貞をはたらいたり、裏切ったりして、お互いを傷つけあっています。
We suffer through divorce [image], abortions, lawsuits and so on.
私たちは離婚をしたり、子どもをおろしたり、裁判沙汰などをおこしたりして苦しんでいます。
We have become masters of our own destiny which is another way of saying we have become selfish [image].私たちは自分たちで運命に翻弄されるのが上手になりました。それは言い換えれば自分勝手なだけなのです。
We have separation from God.
私たちは神から離れてしまいました。
And then finally, we have death. そしてついに私たちは死ぬこととなりました。
The miracle of life comes to an end. 生命の奇跡は終わりを告げました。
It wasn’t meant to be this way.でも、こんなはずではなかったのです。
The Bible calls all these harms and waywardness and separation from God: ‘sin’.
聖書はこれらの害と神からそむき離れることを‘罪’といいます。
And sin is now ingrained in every person. そして、罪は私たち一人一人にしみ込んでいるのです。
That is why we know what all these things are. だから罪のことをよく知っています。
That’s why we get hurt by people and that’s why we hurt people.
だから人に傷つけられたり、傷ついたりするのです。
That’s why we get sick and that’s why we suffer. だから病気になったり苦しんだりするのです。
Ultimately it’s sin, and sin affects everyone from the cradle to the grave.
とどのつまりは罪なのです。罪は、ゆりかごから墓場まで私たちにつきまとっているのです。
Sin is the great destroyer of the miracle of life that God created.
罪は神が創造された命の奇跡を大いに破壊するものです。
But there is good news. しかし良い知らせがあります。
And this good news is what the Christian faith is all about.
そして、その良い知らせとはクリスチャンの信仰が全てだと言うことです。
There is a remedy for sin. There is a cure. There is a solution.
罪の修復方法、罪を直す方法はあります。罪の治癒方法はあります。解決方法はあります。
His name is Jesus.
その名はイエスです。
Sin separates us from God and brings suffering.
罪が私たちを神から引き離し、苦しみをもたらします。
Jesus brings us back to God and brings healing.
イエスが私たちを神のもとに引き戻してくれて癒しを取り戻してくれます。
Sin separates us from God and brings condemnation.
罪が私たちを神から引き離し、さばきをもたらします。
Jesus brings us back to God and brings forgiveness.
イエスが私たちを神のもとに引き戻してくれて赦しを取り戻してくれます。
Sin separates us from God and brings animosity between us and others, and us and God.
罪が私たちを神から引き離し、互いに敵意を抱かせ、神との間に敵意を抱かせます。
Jesus brings us back to God and brings love between us and others, and us and God.
イエスが私たちを神のもとに引き戻してくれて互いに愛を抱かせ、神との間に愛を抱かせてくれます。
Sounds great. And rather poetic.
とてもいい話に聞こえます。まるで詩でも読んでいるかのようです。
But how do we know this is true?
しかし、このことが真実であると、どうすれば分かるのでしょうか？
How can we know and experience the reality of this?
どうやって、このことが真実だということを知りうるのでしょうか？
We know it’s true because Jesus was a real man who lived about 2000 years ago.
わたしたちはこのことが真実だということを知っています。なぜならイエスは実在の人でしたから。His life is well documented by both Christian and non-Christian historians.
クリスチャンとクリスチャンではない歴史学者によっても、イエスの生涯は記録されているのです。
We know that he made some extraordinary claims.
イエスが驚異的な偉業を成し遂げたことを、私たちはみんな知っています。
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
わたしは道であり、真理であり、命である。だれでもわたしによらないでは、父のみもとに行くことはできない。ヨハネによる福音書14:6
I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die. John 11:25
わたしはよみがえりであり、命である。わたしを信じる者は、たとい死んでも生きる。
ヨハネによる福音書11:25
I and the Father are one. John 10:30
わたしと父とは一つであるヨハネによる福音書10:30
We also know that these extraordinary claims are true because this man, Jesus Christ, was crucified on a cross, was dead for three days, and then rose from the grave.
私たちはまた、それらの驚異的な偉業は本当で、イエスは十字架にかかり、三日間死に、墓からよみがえりました。
We’ve talked about the wonder of some buildings.
これまで、素晴らしい不思議な建造物のことについて話をしてきました。
We’ve talked about the wonder of life.
人生の不思議についても話してきました。
But here we have wonder on a whole other level: the wonder of a resurrected life.
しかし、これは全く違ったレベルの不思議です：よみがえった命の不思議です。
It’s here in the death and resurrection of Jesus that we find the wonder of wonders.
ここでは、不思議の中の不思議、イエスの死と復活のことを言っているのです。
We find it in His death because Jesus’ death was not a normal death.
イエスの死、普通ではない死に方からも見て取れます。
It was an atoning death. イエスの死は贖いの死でした。
That means, because Jesus was the only person without sin, He was able to take our sin upon Himself.
イエスは罪人ではない唯一の人でした。彼は私たちの罪を全て被ってくれたのです。
He was able to die in our place.
彼は私たちの代わりに死ぬことができました。
This is real love. これは真実の愛です。
This is sacrificial love. これは犠牲の愛です。
It’s in the death of Christ that we find forgiveness for our sin.
キリストの死のうちに私たちの罪の赦しがあるのです。
And we find this wonder of wonders in the resurrection of Christ.
そして、私たちはこの最も不思議な出来事をイエスの復活に見ることができます。
It’s in the resurrection of Christ that we receive new life. キリストの復活のうちに私たちは新しい命を受けるのです。
We receive power. We receive an inheritance. We become family.
私たちは力をもらい。受け継ぎ。家族となるのです。
Jesus Christ is alive today, not as a Jewish man walking around in the flesh but as a resurrected Lord operating through the Holy Spirit.
イエス キリストはこんにちも生きています。歩き回っているユダヤ人のように生きているわけではありませんが、聖霊を通した神となって、よみがえっているのです。
How do we receive Him? How do we receive the forgiveness of sins? How do we receive new life? How can we be made right again with God?
どのようにしてイエスを受け入れるのでしょうか？どのようにして罪の赦しを受け入れるのでしょうか？どのようにして新しい命を受け入れるのでしょうか？どのように神とまた正しい関係をもてるのでしょうか？
I tell you these are the greatest questions you will ever have to consider.
これらの質問は、あなたたちが生涯かけて考えていかなければならない素晴らしい質問です。
Here are the answers:その答えはこうです。
How do we receive Him?
By believing that He is the Son of God, the risen Lord, and inviting Him by prayer to come in and be the only Lord of our lives.
どのようにしてイエスを受け入れるのでしょうか？
イエスが神の御子であり、よみがえった主と信じ、人生の唯一の主となってくださるよう祈り招くことによってです。
How do we receive the forgiveness of sins?
どのようにして罪の赦しを受け入れるのでしょうか？
By confessing our sins to Him, repenting of our sins and asking Jesus to forgive us.
罪を神に告白し、罪を悔い改め、イエスに赦しを請うことによってです。
It’s that simple. Profound but simple.
そんなに簡単なことなのです。意味深いですが、実は簡単なのです。
How do we receive new life?
どのようにして新しい命を受け入れるのでしょうか？
New life can only be received when the Holy Spirit enters us.
新しい命は聖霊が私たちのうちに入って初めて受け入れられます。
When we ask in faith for God to fill us with His Holy Spirit, He does.
神に信仰をもって聖霊で満たしてくださるようにお願いする時、神はしてくださいます。
You might feel something at that time, you might not.
聖霊で満たされることを感じる人もいますし、感じない人もいるでしょう。
But at that point you are born again.
しかし、その時点であなたは生まれ変わっているのです。
How can we be made right again with God?
どのように神とまた正しい関係をもてるのでしょうか？
If you have believed, repented and received of God, then you are already right with God.
神を信じ、悔い改め、神を受け入れたなら、もうすでに神と正しい関係にあるのです。
There is nothing more. ただそれだけです。
You don’t have to ‘do’ anything. それ以上、する必要はありません。
You can’t do anything. それ以上、何もできません。
It’s already been done for you. すでに、あなたのためになされているからです。
What is left is for you to spend the rest of your life following Jesus, enjoying God and worshipping Him.
あとは残りの人生、イエスに従い、神を楽しみ、礼拝していくのみです。
So my invitation for you tonight is to experience the true wonder of the world, Jesus Christ.
ですから、私のあなたへのお願いは、本当に不思議な世界、イエスキリストの世界を、今夜経験してみてください。
If you would like to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, to turn from sin, to receive the Holy Spirit, to receive the forgiveness of sins, the promise of new life, and to live a life filled with the wonder of God, I invite you to come forward in a minute with everyone else and take communion, marking your entry into a new life in Christ.
もしあなたがイエスキリストを主として、救世主として受け入れ、罪から離れ、聖霊を受け入れ、罪の赦し、新しい人生の約束を受け入れ、神の不思議に満たされた人生を歩みたいのであれば、キリストにある新しい人生の中に入るしるしとして、あとでみなさんといっしょに前に出てきて、聖餐式にあずかってください。
Let me explain the elements of communion.
The bread and the wine are symbols of the body and blood of Jesus Christ and taking them marks a person’s entrance into and surrender to the body of Christ and the life of His church. If you have never taken communion before or haven’t for a long time but tonight would like to commit or re-commit your life to Christ, I invite you to come forward with the others and receive prayer and the elements.
聖餐式のパンとぶどう酒の説明をしましょう。
パンとぶどう酒はイエス・キリストの体と血の象徴で、それらを受けることによりキリストの体とキリストの教会生活に入り、ゆだねることを示します。今までに聖餐式を受けたことがないけれども、今晩、キリストに人生をゆだねたい、または長いことあずかっていないけれども、もう一度キリストに人生をゆだねたいと思う方は、いっしょに前に出てきて祈ってもらい聖餐にあずかってください。
Take a moment to examine your lives, to give your lives to God, and when you are ready, please come forward.
