The truth is a really big deal. It doesn’t matter if it’s politics, business, science, medicine, media, the arts, environmental matters, legal matters, spiritual matters, personal relationships, or the ingredients labelled in chocolate. No-one wants to be told a lie. No-one wants to believe a lie. No-one wants to live a lie. We want to know and live in truth.
「真実」とは本当に大切なことです。政治、ビジネス、科学、医学、メディア、芸術、環境問題、法的問題、精神的問題、個人的関係、またはチョコレートのラベルに書かれている食品の成分であれ、どんなことについても「真実」を述べることは大切です。誰も嘘をつかれたくない。誰も嘘を信じたくありません。誰も嘘をつきたくない。我々は真実を知り、生きていきたいですよね。
Truth is the theme of the apostle John’s second letter. We continue moving through the books of the Bible today. 2 John is a really short letter. It’s only 1 chapter, 13 verses long. But in this very brief letter, John emphasises the importance of ‘truth’. In fact, he mentions it 5 times in the first four verses:
使徒ヨハネの第二の手紙のテーマは「真実、真理」です。今日も聖書の書を通して読んでいきます。 ヨハネ第二の手紙は本当に短い手紙です。 1章、しかも13節しかありません。しかし、この非常に簡潔な手紙での中で、ヨハネは「真実、真理」がいかに大切であるかを強調しています。実際、彼は最初の4つの節で真理の大切さを5回も書いています。
There are three express truths written in 2 John:2
ヨハネの第二の手紙に書かれた3つの明白な「真理」があります：
Truth 1: Our purpose in life is to love God with all our heart, and to love others. v6
真理１：私たちの人生の目的は、心から神を愛すること、そして人を愛することです。6節
Truth 2: Jesus was God in the flesh v7
真理２：イエスは人となられた神でした。7節
Truth 3: The gospel is all you need to know God and to get right with Him. v9
真理３：福音は神を知るため、神と正しい関係を持つために必要なすべてです。９節
So what do the gospels tell us about the truth? In John’s gospel we find a similar emphasis on truth. John records Pilate asking Jesus:
では、他の福音書は真実、真理について私たちに何と教えてくれているでしょうか？ヨハネの福音書では、他の書と同じ真理を強調しています。

John records Jesus saying:

And as we study John’s letters and the gospels, we discover an extraordinary thing about the truth, in the grandest sense:
そして、ヨハネの手紙と福音を学んでいくと、わたしたちは、真実がいかに特別なことで壮大な意味を持っているかということを発見します。
The truth is not some cosmic code of conduct that everyone, including God, has to adhere to.
真実とは、神を含むすべての人が守らなければならない宇宙的な行動基準のようなものではありません。

The truth is not a set of unchanging scientific facts.
真実とは、不変の科学に元ずく事実の集まりではありません。

The truth is not subject to change through democratic elections.

The truth is not something that is proven in a court of law.

The truth is a person.
真理は人です。
Jesus said:
ヨハネは次のように言いました。
The truth is a person to believe in and follow. The truth is a person who brings us true freedom in our lives. And the truth is a person – the only one – who can give us access to God the Father. This extraordinary statement has to be either wonderful truth, or a terrible lie.
真理、真実とは、信じて従う人のことを言います。真実とは、私たちの人生に真の自由をもたらしてくれる人のことを言います。そして、真実とは私たちを父なる神へととりなすことができる人 、 私たちと神を繋げてくださる唯一の人 です。ヨハネの福音書のこのような信じられない特別な言葉は、素晴らしい真実か、またはひどい嘘かのどちらかでしょう。
But Jesus is the truth at the very core of His being. He is not capable of lying. 70 times in the gospels he is recorded as saying, “I tell you the truth”. Speaking truth was all He was capable of.
しかし、イエスは、神の存在の核となる真理です。神は嘘はつきません。あらゆる福音書の中でイエスは 「私はあなたに真実を言う」と７０回も記載されています。言葉で真実を語るのはイエスにできるすべてのことでした。
By contrast, the devil is a liar. He is called “the father of lies”, a deceiver, and one who tries to hide, change or deny the truth.
イエスとは対照的に、悪魔は嘘つきです。悪魔は「嘘の父」と呼ばれ、詐欺師であり、真実を隠したり、変えたり、拒否しようとする人です。
That leaves us with a challenge when we come to making life decisions. Are we going to listen to Jesus, who is the truth; or are we going to listen to the devil, who is a liar?
私たちが人生で何かを決断するとき、決断するということは非常に難しく感じます。私たちは真実であるイエスに耳を傾けようとしているでしょうか？それとも私たちは嘘つきである悪魔に耳を傾けるのでしょうか？
Jesus said, “I am God in the flesh” (based on 2 John 7). Satan says, “No, He wasn’t. He was just a good man, or a fake, or maybe He never existed at all.”
イエスは「私は人となった神です」と言いました。（ヨハネ第7章に基づいて）。しかし、悪魔であるサタンは次のように言いました。「いいえ、イエスは人の形をした神ではありません。イエスはただの善人であり、偽物であり、まったくこの世に存在などしていませんでした。」
（サタンはそうではないと言っています。）
Jesus said:
イエスは言いました。
Satan says, “No way! There are many ways to God. Choose whichever (or none) that suits you.”
サタンは、「そんなことはありえない。神への道はたくさんある。自分にあった方法で神に会えるし、全く神に会わなくてもいいんだよ。」と言います。
（サタンは、神への道はたくさんあると言います。）
Jesus said:
イエスは言いました。
Satan says, “Do what feels good. Morality is merely a social construct. There are no consequences for your actions.”
（サタンは自分が良いと感じることをしなさいと言います。）
でもサタンは「自分が良いと感じることをしなさい。道徳とは単に社会的構造に過ぎないんだし、あなたがどんな行動を取っても何の問題もありませんよ。」と言います。
Jesus said, “God loves you so much that He is willing to lay down His life to save yours.” (based on John 3:16 and 1 John 3:16)
イエスは、「あなたの命を救うためにご自分の命をおしまずに捨てるほど神はあなたを愛している」と言いました。（ヨハネ3:16、ヨハネの手紙Ⅰ3:16による）
Satan says, “God could never love, or even be interested in, someone like you.”
しかしサタンは、「神はあなたのような人を愛することなどできない」と言います。
Jesus said:
イエスは言いました。
このわたしが、死人を生き返らせ、もう一度いのちを与えるのです。わたしを信じる者は、たとえほかの人と同じように死んでも、また生きるのです。わたしを信じて永遠のいのちを持っている者は、決して滅びることがありません。
Satan says either “There is no afterlife. You’re just a bunch of chemicals that will end upon death.” or “Not true. Everyone goes to heaven anyway. That sounds better, doesn’t it?”
悪魔は「死後の世界はないんですよ。あなたは死に向かっている化学物質、血や肉の塊でしかないんですよ。」または、サタンは「そうではありません。みんなが天国に行けるんですよ。いいじゃないですか？そう思いませんか？」と言います。
Jesus said:
イエスは言いました。
Satan says, “There’s no such thing as full life. True happiness is a myth.”
サタンは、「完全な人生なんてありません。真の幸福なんて実在しません。」と言います。
Jesus said:
イエスは言いました。
Satan says, “That is old teaching. We are better educated and more advanced that that now.”
サタンは「それは古い教えです。私たちはより教育され、より進化している。」と言います。

Who are you going to believe? Jesus, who is Himself the Truth? Or Satan, the devil, the father of lies? Are you going to believe the good news, or the fake news? I’m going with Jesus, the good news, the Truth.
あなたは誰を信じますか？イエスという真実を信じますか？それともサタンという悪魔、偽りの父を信じますか？福音を信じますか、それとも偽のうそを信じますか？私なら福音、真理、イエスと共に歩みます。

The apostle John, who walked with Jesus, spoke with Him, touched Him and witnessed His life, said,
イエスと歩んだ使徒ヨハネは、イエスと話をし、イエスに触れ、イエスの人生を目の当たりに見て、次のように言いました。
Joshua said to the Israelites, ‘Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, the fake gods of this world, or the Lord. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.’ (based on Joshua 24:15)
ヨシュアはイスラエル人にこう言いました。「もしあなたがたが主に仕えることを、こころよしとしないのならば、あなたがたの先祖が、川の向こうで仕えた神々でも、または、いまあなたがたの住む地のアモリびとの神々でも、あなたがたの仕える者を、きょう、選びなさい。ただし、わたしとわたしの家とは共に主に仕えます」（ヨシュア24:15に基づく）
Let today be a day where you make a conscious choice for yourself. Who will you believe and who will you follow – Jesus the Truth, or Satan the liar? Who will you trust your life to? Jesus, or yourself? Where will you place your heart: in the Kingdom of Heaven or in the kingdom of this world?
今日はあなたが選択をする日になります。あなたは誰を信じ、誰に従いますか？イエス・キリスト・真実、あるいは悪魔である嘘つきなサタンですか？あなたの人生を誰に信頼し預けますか？イエス、またはあなた自身ですか？あなたの心はどこにありますか？天国ですか？それともこの世でしょうか？
