Today, we continue our run through the books of the Bible. We look at the book of Colossians, another letter that Paul wrote from prison in AD60 along with Ephesians, Philippians and Philemon. It was a busy year of writing for Paul, and shows that even in the harshest conditions, God can still work tremendous good if we surrender our lives to Him.
今日も私たちは聖書の本を引き続き読んでいきましょう。私たちは、今日は、パウロがエペソ人、ピリピ人、ピレモン書 と一緒に紀元後60年に牢屋から書いた別の手紙、コロサイ人の書を読んでいきましょう。その年は、パウロにとっては本の執筆に忙しい1年になりました。そして、どんなに厳しい状況においても、私たちが人生を神に委ねるならば、神は私たちの人生に偉大な業績を残してくれます。
Colossians was written primarily to address heresy that was creeping into the early church. Today, I’d like to first look at three areas of heresy that Paul addressed, and then go on to look at Paul’s teaching on living a life in Christ.
コロサイ人は主に、初期の教会に忍び寄ろうとしていた異教に向けて書かれました。今日は、パウロが語った異教説を3つの観点からみましょう。キリストにおける人生についてのパウロの教えを見ていきたいと思います。
- Legalism
律法主義
The first area of heresy involves legalism, as manifest in ceremonialism and asceticism. Some big words there but what it means is that people were getting caught up in lots of petty rules about what they could and couldn’t do or eat, about religious days and festivals (ceremonialism), and avoiding anything that might actually be pleasurable (asceticism).
儀式主義 禁欲主義 細かい規則
最初に書かれていることは、儀式主義と禁欲主義の現れとして、異教には法律主義を伴うということが書かれています。難しい言葉がたくさん使われていますが、それは、人々が宗教的な祭りや、儀式について、してもいいと許されていることは何か、食べてもいいもの、食べることができないもの、宗教的な儀式をしなければならないとか、禁欲主義のように楽しみを感じることはさけるなど、たくさんの細かい規則に捕らわれるという意味です。
The church has a pretty poor history when it comes to legalism. Throughout the ages, it’s been wrong for Christians to dance, to wear skirts with hemlines above the knee, even for women to go hatless in church and so on.
教会は律法主義に関してはあまり良い歴史を持っているとは言えません。昔は、いかなる年齢であれ、クリスチャンが踊ったり、膝の上より短いスカートを着たり、女性が教会で帽子をかぶらないというようなことは、間違っていました。
Even today, we see this legalism in some who would say it’s wrong for Christians to drink alcohol, it’s wrong for Christians to listen to non-Christian music, it’s wrong for Christians to celebrate Christmas, it’s wrong for Christians to gather for church on a Sunday.
今日（こんにち）でも、クリスチャンがアルコールを飲むのは間違っていると言う人もいますし、クリスチャンがクリスチャン以外の音楽を聴くのは間違っているという人もいます。クリスチャンがクリスマスを祝うのは間違っているという人もいれば、日曜日にクリスチャンが教会に集まるのは間違っているという人もいます。
Let me say that if God has put it on your heart to completely avoid alcohol or to listen only to Christian music, that’s excellent and I encourage you to be faithful to that leading. But that doesn’t mean you should judge others in the matter, or insist that they behave likewise.
しかしここで言わせてください。神が、あなたの心に働きかけ、アルコールを一滴も飲まないようになったり、キリスト教の音楽だけを聞くようになるのなら、それは素晴らしいことであり、あなたが神に忠実であるのは素晴らしいと思います。しかし、あなたが、アルコールや音楽の趣味のようなことで他の人を裁いたり、あるいは他の人々が私たちと同じように行動することを強要するべきではありません。
Paul writes,

He goes on in v 23 to say,

And this leads us to what is really important in living a life that is in Christ. In chapter 3 Paul goes to lengths to talk about things that really matter:
そしてこれは、キリストを信じて生きていく上で本当に重要なことにつながります。第3章では、ポールは、私たちの人生に何が本当に重要であるかについて語っています。
On the contrary, we are to nurture a life in Christ in which we:
それどころか、私たちはキリストのために生きる人生を育むべきなのです。
* This is timely for communion today.
These are the behaviours which are truly important because they reflect the character of God.
これらの行為は、神の性格を反映しているため、本当に重要な行動です。
- Angel Worshipi
天使の崇拝
The second area of heresy involves angel worship. I’m not aware of anyone here who worships angels, but just as some in the Colossian church were elevating angels to an idolatrous position, we can easily do this with those that we admire. As I promote the church library, I’m aware that we can become so attached to certain authors that we need to be careful that we are not moving dangerously close to idol worship.

If we feel that the words of Jim Cymbala or Philip Yancey or Rick Warren or Ayako Miura (or her husband) are more appealing to us than the words of Christ, then we need to reassess our priorities.
ジム・シンバル、フィリップ・ヤンシー、リック・ウォーレン、ミウラ・アヤコの言葉がキリストの言葉よりも魅力的であると感じたら、自分の優先順位をもう一度確認する必要があります。
“Angel/idol worship” is often subtle and gradual, that’s how we come to fall for it. If we feel that our ministry is more important than our God, then we’re guilty of a form of idol worship.
天使礼拝や偶像崇拝はしばしば気がつきにくく、そのため私たちが偶像礼拝に落ち入りやすくなってしまうのです。私たちの使命や召が、私たちの神よりも重要であると感じたら、ある意味、偶像崇拝に陥っていると言えるでしょう。
Now we would never say that our ministry is more important than God, but if we find ourselves thinking more about the ministry work than God, spending more time in ministry work than in communion with God, and most importantly, loving our ministry work more than we love God Himself, then we have a problem, and we need to repent.
私たちの使命、召は神よりも重要だとは決して言いませんが、神よりも宣教活動についてもっと考えているならば、神との交わりよりも宣教活動多くの時間をに費やしていることになりますよ。私たちは神自身を愛し、私たちには罪という問題があり、悔い改める必要があります。

Remember your first love and remember the greatest commandment to love God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. Love God so affectionately (as we learnt last week) that your second greatest love appears as hatred by comparison (Luke 14:26).
あなたの最初の愛を覚えて、あなたの心と魂と心の強さをもって神を愛する最大の戒めを思い出してください。私たちが先週ルカ１４章２６節で学んだように、あなたの二番目に大きな愛、両親に対する愛が、あまりに大きな神への愛と比べるとちっぽけな愛として現れるように、それぐらいの愛情をもって神を愛してください（ルカ14:26）。
- Depreciation of Christ
キリストを見下す
The third area of heresy involves any depreciation of Christ. Again, I don’t believe this is an area of concern in our church, but I do want us to be alert and aware of this.
三番目の異教の考え方は、キリストを見下すということです。繰り返しますが、私はこれが私たちの教会で懸念されることではないと信じていますが、自分自身に警告しそのようなことがないように、いつも認識してほしいと思います。
It’s the depreciation of Christ that sets Mormans, Jehovah’s Witnesses and other groups apart from the Christian faith. Both deny the deity of Christ, which is heresy. And both deny that the work of Christ on the cross was sufficient for salvation, so salvation for them becomes a matter of faith in God and our own deeds.
モルモン人、エホバの証人、キリスト教の信仰から離れた他のグループがしていることはキリストを見下している行為です。どれも、異教であり、キリストの神格を否定しています。そして、どちらも、十字架上でのキリストの働きが救いのために十分ではなかったと言っているので、彼らの救いは、神に対する信仰の問題となっています。
It’s not only the teaching of the cults. Secular teaching does much the same. Some ‘scholars’ will say that Jesus was just a man, or that he never even existed, or if he did that he never resurrected in the body, that he is just another religious figure and so on. The work of the devil is to steal, kill and destroy the work of Jesus and ruin the relationship we have with God through Him.
それはただのファナティックな宗教団体の教えではありません。世俗的な教えはほとんど同じです。一部の「学者」は、イエスはただの人間である、あるいはもともと存在しなかった、あるいは、決して死から復活はしなかったと言うでしょう。悪魔の働きは、イエスの仕事を盗んで殺し、破壊し、私たちと神との関係を台無しにすることです。
Paul, once a persecutor of Jesus, then one who met the risen Jesus face to face, addresses these questions of Christ’s supremacy in stunning form:

Let’s move on and look briefly at Paul’s teaching on living a life in Christ, and some instructions for holy living, first with regards to the church family, then with regards to the family at home.
次に、キリストにおける人生を語るパウロの教えと、聖霊のためにどう生きるかという指導について話しましょう。まず教会の家庭について、次に家にいる家族についての説明をみていきましょう。
Last week, we had a congregational meeting and voted for Pastor Joseph to be our next pastor. This was not an easy step for any of us but by God’s grace, this church has a secure and exciting future. 40 people were eligible to vote. 32 voted yes. 5 abstained, and 3 voted no.
先週、私たちはミーティングを開き、ジョセフ牧師が次の牧師になる投票をしました。これは私たちにとっては簡単な決断ではありませんでしたが、神の恵みによって、この教会は平安な、そして楽しみな未来を期待できます。 40人が投票に参加し、 32人はイエスと投票しました。 5人は棄権し、3人は反対しました。
I don’t know who those were who abstained and voted no, but I want to say with all my heart what should be obvious: you are and always will be just as loved and valued in this church family as those who voted yes. We are one in this. So I want to read these words that Paul wrote to the Colossian church, to our church, our whole church, our united church:
私は誰が棄権し、誰が反対したのかどうか分かりませんが、私は、その反対または棄権した人たちに、心からこう言いたいと思います。あなたたちは、いつもイエスと投票した人たちと同じようにこの教会で愛され、私たちはいつも一つです。ですから私は、パウロがコロッセオ教会に書いたように、私たちの教会、私たち教会の全員、私たちの統一された教会に、次の言葉を読んでみたいと思います：
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
Let me interrupt here. It doesn’t say ‘Let the peace of Christ occasionally resolve issues in your hearts’. It doesn’t say ‘let the peace of Christ influence your hearts’. It says ‘let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts’, as a permanent, identity-shaping, sovereign quality.
あなたの心にキリストの平和がもたらされるようにしてください。
私はこれ以上は言いません。「キリストが平和をもたらし、あなたの心の中の問題を解決します」とは言いません。「キリストの平安が、あなたの心に平安をもたらしますように。」とも言いません。この聖句の箇所は、イエスは、恒久的かつ断片的で人格を形成してくれて、権限と品格を持ち、「キリストの平和が、あなたの心を支配する」と言っています。
To the family, Paul writes,
パウロは家族に対してこう書いています。
To some, this might seem like some quaint teaching of yesteryear. It’s not. It’s the Word of God and it reflects a godly, God-ordained order in the family. Wives are to submit to their husbands, and in today’s world that’s hard to do because everything in the world tells you not to do that. But God declares that this is the right and healthy thing to do.
何人かの人には、これは往年の奇妙な教えのように思えるかもしれません。しかし、そうではありません。それは神の言葉であり、それは神の定めた秩序を家族に反映しています。今日の世界ではしないようにと言われていることをしなければならないので、妻にとっては、聖書の教えに従うのは難しいと思います。しかし、神はこれが正しい、健康的なことであると言っています。
Some might wonder if this applies if your husband is not a Christian. It does. With the exception of activities that are blatentley harmful, blasphemous or idolatrous, wives should submit to the leadership of a non-believing husband. He is still the head of the family. If this is a struggle for you, I refer you to Leslie and Lee Stroble’s excellent book, “Surviving a Spiritual Mismatch in Marriage”.
あなたの夫がキリスト教徒でない場合、これが当てはまるかどうか疑問に思うかもしれません。します。有害な、冒涜的な、または偶像崇拝的な活動を除いて、妻は信者でない夫を導く必要があります。信者でなくとも夫は家族の頭です。夫が信者でないことがあなたにとって戦いであるならば、レスリーとリー・ストローブルの「結婚における精神的不一致をどう乗り切るか」という本を読んでみてください。
Husbands are to love their wives, gently, affectionately and sacrificially, laying down their lives for their wives.
夫は妻を優しく、愛情深く犠牲の心を持って妻を愛し、妻のために命を捧げなければなりません。
Paul’s teaching in these directives for husbands and wives is clear, so I now want to look at the flip side of this teaching. Husbands, be of such good and noble character that it is easy for your wife to submit to you. Wives, make it easy for your husband to love you. We can and should help each other fulfill these commands.
パウロがこれらの夫や妻への教えを説いていることは明らかです。そこで私は、この教えの裏の側を見ていきたいと思います。夫たちよ、あなたがたの妻があなたに服従しやすいように、良き誉ある性格でありなさい。妻たちよ、あなたがたの夫があなたを愛することができるようにしなさい。我々はお互いにこれらの命を果たすことに努力し、またそうなるべく協力すべきです。
In teaching about families Paul also instructs us to obey our parents, and for parents to be kind to their kids and to always encourage them.
家族についての教えでは、パウロはまた、子供は両親に従い、両親は子供たちに親切で、常に子供を励ますように伝えています。
