What final words would you want to be remembered by?

Let’s have a quick look at the last words of some famous people.
有名な人何人かの最後の言葉を見てみましょう
General John Sedgwick (killed in battle during the US Civil War): “They couldn’t hit an elephant at this dist…”

When we look at the last words of Jesus, we find something truly extraordinary. This morning, I want to look at three of the last things that Jesus said. I want you to remember that these were spoken by an innocent man who had been tortured and condemned to die; a man who had been abandoned and betrayed by his closest friends; a man who was in absolute physical, emotional and spiritual agony.
イエスの最後の言葉を見てみると、何か本当に驚くべきことがあるのが分かります。今朝はイエスが言った最後のことの3つを見てみたいと思います。何も罪を犯していないのに,苦しめられ死に定められたお方、親しい友から見捨てられ、裏切られたお方、身体的、感情的、霊的にも苦しみを受けたお方が語られた言葉であることを忘れないでください。
- To his mother, he said referring to the disciple John,
自分の母親にむかって、弟子ヨハネのことをこう言いました、
“Here is your son”
婦人よ、ごらんなさい。これはあなたの子です;
and to John, referring to his mother, he said,
ヨハネには彼の母親のことをこう言いました。
“Here is your mother”
ごらんなさい。これはあなたの母です.
Even in the throes of death, right to the end, Jesus was concerned for the welfare of his family and closest friends. That tells us the sort of person Jesus was.
死の苦しみの真っ只中にあっても、最後まで、イエスはご自分の家族や親しい友の身の上のことを気遣っていました。このことからイエスがどんなお方であったかが分かります。 - To a thief on the cross beside Him, a man who deserved no mercy for what he had done, Jesus spoke words of forgiveness and kindness. When the thief acknowledged Jesus as the Christ and asked for mercy, Jesus said,
自分のしたことの報いを受けて隣で同じように十字架にかけられていた犯罪人に、イエスは 赦しと優しい言葉をかけました。その犯罪人がイエスをキリストだと認め、憐れみを乞うた時、イエスは言いました。
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
よく言っておくが、あなたはきょう、わたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう
It’s unfathomable to earthly minds how someone [Jesus] who had endured so much pain and humiliation and loss, could be [remained] so kind and forgiving to someone so undeserving. But that’s who Jesus was.
あれだけの苦痛に耐え、卑しみを受け、多くを失ったお方が憐れみを受けるに値しない者にそれほど優しく赦せるなんてこの世の考えでは理解し難いことです。しかしそれがイエスだったのです。 - But the most remarkable words he spoke were those at the very end. Two sentences, they tell us exactly who Jesus was; in fact, they reflect Jesus’ whole life and purpose.
しかし最も注目すべきイエスの言葉は最後に話された言葉です。2つの文からなります。その文からイエスがどんなお方であったかはっきりと分かります。むしろ、その文はイエスの人生全てと目的を映し出しています。
The first of these sentences was
最初の文は
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
わが神、わが神、なにゆえわたしを捨てられるのですか。
These are the words of a man in spiritual agony. Jesus was one with God the Father. He was always with God, He had never been apart from God. But because Jesus, like a sacrificial lamb, took our sins upon Him, He became an offense to God. So there on the cross, God the Father turned His back on His Son Jesus and rejected Him, condemning Him to death.
これは霊的に苦しんでいる人の言葉です。イエスは父なる神と一つでした。いつも神とともにいました。神から離れたことはありませんでした。しかし、いけにえの子羊のようにイエスは私たちの罪を負ったので、神を怒らせるものとなったのです。そして十字架の上で、父なる神は御子イエスに背を向け、拒み、死刑に定めたのです。
What we have to understand, is that with these words, Jesus wasn’t just crying out hopelessly. He was quoting Psalm 22 which begins with these very words, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
イエスはただ絶望して叫んでいる言葉ではなかったということを私たちは理解すべきです。詩篇22を引用していたのです。“わが神、わが神。どうして私をお見捨てになったのですか。”
What else does Psalm 22 say?
Very quickly, the Psalm turns into a confession of praise. Verses 3-5 say,
詩篇22はほかに何と言っているでしょうか？
3-5節は賛美の告白に変わっていっています。
Even on the cross, Jesus exalts God and praises Him for the mighty Deliverer that He is. He doesn’t deny His pain or suffering. His suffering is real and undeniable. But even in the midst of such awful circumstances, Jesus praises God as the Holy One and as the One who would save Him. What a remarkable example for us as we struggle with our own hardships and challenges!
十字架の上でも、イエスは力強い救い出してくださるお方である神を崇め、賛美しています。痛みや苦しみを否定しているのではありません。イエスの苦しみは本物で否定できないものでした。しかしそれほどひどい状況の真っ只中にあっても、イエスは神を聖なるおかた、救ってくださるおかただとさんびしています。困難やチャレンジに苦しむ私たちになんと素晴らしい模範を示してくださったことでしょう。
Psalm 22 is much more than this, though. Written 1000 years before Jesus was born, it is also a powerful prophecy, describing in accurate and graphic terms the sort of death that Jesus would die:
詩篇22はそれだけではありません。イエスが生まれる1000年前に書かれ、イエスの死を正確に生々しく描いた力ある預言でもあります。
This is an extraordinary prophecy, not only because of its accuracy, but because it talks about Jesus’ hands and feet being pierced. Crucifixion wouldn’t be invented for another 1000 years. So King David, who wrote the Palm, was really given a powerful vision. Only God could provide this.
これは驚くべき預言です。正確であるからだけではなく、イエスの手足が刺し貫かれることも語っているからです。十字架上の死刑が実行されたのは1000年後のことです。この詩篇を書いたダビデ王は、本当に力強いビジョンを与えられたのです。こんなことができるのは神だけです。
Yet it’s the final three words that Jesus uttered on the cross which are the most remarkable. He simply said, “It is finished”. What did he mean by this? His life was finished? There was no hope anymore?
イエスが十字架の上で口にした最後の言葉は最も注目すべき言葉です。ただ「完了した」と言っただけでした。どういう意味だったのでしょうか？イエスの命が終わったということでしょうか？希望はもうないのでしょうか？
Look at the last three verses of Psalm 22 to find the answer:
その答えを詩篇22の最後の3節に見てみましょう。
See the last four words here? “He has done it!”
主がなされたその救という最後の言葉を見てください。
Jesus last words on the cross are not hopeless exasperation that all is gone and everything was over. Far from it! Jesus final words are a great declaration of victory!
イエスの十字架の上での最後の言葉は、すべてがなくなってしまい、すべてが終わりという絶望的な憤慨ではないのです。むしろその逆で、イエスの最後の言葉は、勝利の大宣言なのです。

| Jesus has brought salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him. |
イエスは信じる者すべてに救いと永遠の命をもたらした |
This all sounds good in theory. But how do we know this is true? How can we know this is worth changing our lives for? Maybe Jesus just got lucky with the prophecy – if being crucified can be considered lucky – and He said those things from Psalm 22 to make everything look all right.
How do we know that this great victory of Jesus is real and relevant to us today? Very easy.
理屈の上ではよく聞こえます。しかしこれが本当だとどうしたら分かるのでしょうか？これが私たちの人生を変える価値があるものだとどうしたら分かるのでしょうか？イエスはただ預言に運が良かっただけだったのかもしれません。十字架にかかることが運がいいと言えるかどうか分かりませんが。詩篇22から言ったことはすべてうまくいくように見せるだけだったのかもしれません。イエスのこの大勝利が本当で、今の私たちにも関係しているとどうしたら分かるのでしょうか？それはとても簡単なことです。
Jesus rose from the dead!
イエスは死からよみがえったのです！
That is what we celebrate on Easter Sunday. Jesus came alive after his death, and Jesus is alive today!
このことを私たちはイースターの日曜日に祝うのです。イエスは死んだ後、生き返ったのです。イエスは今日、生きているのです。
We know that he died, and didn’t just pass out.
イエスはただ気絶しただけではなく、死んだということを私たちは知っています。
We know that the body was missing, and that the Romans had no explanation for where it might have gone. They certainly didn’t produce the body when the disciples were celebrating His resurrection.
イエスの遺体が無くなっていて、ローマ人たちは遺体がどこに行ってしまったのか説明ができませんでした。弟子たちがイエスの復活を祝っているときに、遺体を作り出すわけにはいきませんでした。
We know that 500 people met with the risen Jesus before He was taken back to heaven.
天国に戻って行かれる前に、500人もの人たちがよみがえったイエスに会ったことを私たちは知っています。
That’s how we know it’s true. This can only be a miracle of God.
だから本当だと分かるのです。神の奇跡でしかありません。
That is why we celebrate on Easter Sunday. Jesus is alive.
だから私たちはイースターの日曜日に祝うのです。イエスは生きています。
Jesus died to pay the price for our sins, but He resurrected to new life and is alive today!
イエスは私たちの罪の代価を払うために死なれたのです。しかし新しい命によみがえり、今日も生きておられるのです。
This is how we know it’s true and this is worth changing our lives for. In fact, this is how our lives are changed by God. Jesus is alive today and He lives and moves in our lives through His Holy Spirit, who is given to all who turn from their sins, and believe in Jesus choose to follow Him.
In Christ, our sins are forgiven – our souls are free! In Christ, we share in His resurrection and enter new life. We become whole new creations!
それが真実であることをこのように私たちは知っています。そしてこれは私たちの人生を変える価値のあることです。事実、私たちの人生は神によって変えられています。イエスは今日、生きていて、罪から立ち返った者、イエスを信じ、イエスに従おうとする者に与えられる聖霊を通して私たちのうちに動いてくださるのです。
キリストにあって私たちの罪は赦されています。私たちの魂は自由なのです。キリストにあって私たちも復活にあずかり、新しい命に入るのです。私たちは全く新しく造られた者となるのです。
This morning, I want to ask you, what will your last words be? Will they be “Give me another shot of whiskey”? Or will they be “Jesus, remember me when I come to you”?
今朝、私が問いたいのは、あなのの最後の言葉は何でしょうかということです。“ウイスキーをもう一杯くれ”でしょうか？それとも“イエス様、私があなたのもとに行く時、私を思い出してください”でしょうか？
Just as important, what will your very next words be this Easter Sunday? Will they be “When’s lunch?” or will they be “Jesus, come into my life”?
同様に重要なことは、今日のイースターの日曜日のこの後、あなたが言う言葉は何でしょうか？“ランチはいつ？”でしょうか？それとも“イエス様、私の人生にお入りください”でしょうか？
Becoming a Christian is simple, but it’s profound. If you want the resurrected, living Jesus to come into your life, to free you from sin, to fill you with His Holy Spirit, to give you the gift of new life, then repent and be baptised into Jesus Christ.
クリスチャンになることは難しいことではありませんが、深い意味があることです。よみがえって生きておられるイエスを招いて、罪から自由にされ、聖霊に満たされ、新しい命の賜物をいただきたいと思うなら、悔い改めて、イエス･キリストのバプテスマを受けてください。
You can do this easily today by making a decision to turn from wrongdoing and to give your life exclusively to Jesus. You can do this as simply as by praying a prayer of faith, making Jesus Christ the most important person in your life, and, in place of baptism for today, receiving, along with the rest of the church, the elements of bread and grape juice which symbolise the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Eating and drinking these means you become one with Christ, your sins are forgiven and new life is given to you.
悪事をやめ、人生をイエスだけにささげる決心をすることによって、今日このことができます。信仰の決心をする祈りをし、イエス・キリストを人生のいちばん大切なお方とし、今日洗礼を受ける代わりに、教会のみなさんといっしょにイエス・キリストの体と血の象徴であるパンとぶどうジュースを受けることによってできるのです。パンを食べ、ぶどうジュースを飲むことはキリストと一つになり、あなたの罪が赦され、新しい命が与えられるということなのです。
I’m going to say a prayer of salvation now. On this Easter day, if you want to start your life over, be born again in Christ, and enter the kingdom of God, then pray this prayer with me in your heart, and then come forward with everyone else for prayer and to receive the elements of communion.
今から救いのお祈りをします。このイースターの日に、人生をやり直したい、キリストにあって生まれ変わりたい、神の御国に入りたいと思うなら、心の中でこの祈りを祈ってください。そしてみなさんといっしょに前に出て祈り、聖餐式を受けてください。
Sinner’s Prayer/救いの祈り
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
天の神様、イエスの御名によって御前に来ます。私は自分が罪人であることを認めます。私の罪、私の今までの人生を悔いていますから、どうかお赦しください。
I believe that Your only Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
あなたのたった一人の御子、イエス・キリストがカルバリーの十字架で尊い血を流し私の罪のために死んでくださったことを信じます。
You said in Your Holy Word, that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
ローマ10：9の御言葉に、もしあなたの口でイエスを主と告白し、
あなたの心で神はイエスを死者の中からよみがえらせてくださったと信じるならあなたは救われると書いてあります。
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved.
今、イエスが私の魂の主であると告白します。私の心で神はイエスを死者からよみがえらせてくださったと信じます。たった今、イエス・キリストを私自身の救い主として受け入れます。御言葉のとおり、今、私は救われました。
Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself. Fill me with your Holy Spirit that I might live under your guidance and receive the full measure of blessings that you intend for me.
イエス様、私を罪から救ってくださる無限の恵みに感謝します。あなたの恵みは何でもできるように導いてくれるのではなく、いつも悔い改めに導いてくださいます。ですから、主、イエス様、栄光と誉れを私自身にではなく、あなただけに現すことができるよう私の人生を変えてください。あなたの聖霊で私を満たしてください。そうすればあなたの導きの下に生き、私への祝福を十分に受けることができます。
With all my heart I desire to love You Father God, follow You Lord Jesus, and be filled every day with Your Holy Spirit.
心から私は父なる神であるあなたを愛し、主イエスであるあなたに従い、あなたの聖霊に日々満たされたいと願っています。
Thank you for saving me and giving me eternal life.
イエス様、私を救ってくださり、永遠の命を与えてくださってありがとうございます。
