‘Find the treasure’ game
If you look hard enough for the treasure, you will find it. This is like one of the great promises in the Bible. It says,
This is an important promise because we can’t see God with our eyes. Many people say ‘Where is God? I can’t see Him. Is He really there?’ We can’t see God because God is a Spirit and you can’t see spirits with your eyes.
“神はどこにいるのですか？私には見えません。本当にいるのですか？”
So how are we supposed to look for God, if we can’t see him?
I’m going to put 7 suggestions up on the screen for how we can look for God, but 4 of them are not good ways for searching for God. Only 3 of them are good ways for searching for God. Can you tell me which three ways are good for searching for God so that we can find Him, like He promises?
- Use a telescope.
- Give a lot of money at church
- Pray
- Go skydiving
- Read the Bible
- Work out and build big muscles
- Go to church and meet with other Christians
- Read the Bible

I want you to remember these three things, because when we read the Bible with all our hearts, and we pray with all our hearts, and we share with other Christians with all our hearts, we find God.
We’re going to look a little more at this later on but for now, let’s give thanks that God comes to us when we look for Him with all our hearts.

先ほど、教会の青年会、ユースグループが、「100ドル紙幣」というゲームをしました。少しあとで、そのことについてお話しします。
There is a popular Bible verse which is often quoted out of context:
引用されることがとても多い、有名な聖句があります。それは、“Seek and you shall find”. 捜せ、そうすれば見いだすであろう。という聖句です。
Of course, the all important question is, “What are you seeking?”
もちろん、この聖句で聞かれている重要な質問は「あなたは何を求めているのか？」ということです。
The game and the passion that the youth played it with, leads us to two very important teachings of Jesus:
先ほどユースグループの若者たちが熱心にしていたゲームは、イエスの、非常に重要な2つの教えにつながります。

These two verses clarify and give direction to the ‘Seek and you shall find’ that many people refer to.
これらの二つの教えは「わたしたちは何を求めているのか？」という大切な問いに繋がっています。
Some of our youth are entering a vital stage of their school lives.
ユースグループの何人かの学生は学校生活の中でも、学業において、とても大切な時期に入っています。
These are very important years.
これからの２年間は彼らにとって非常に重要な年となります。
This is the final year or final couple of years of school for them, and grades mean everything!
高校の最後の年である１１年生と１２年生というこれらの２年間は、成績がすべてを意味します！
But it can feel like a vital stage for any of us at any time.
しかし、それは高校生に限ったことではなく、実は、私たちも「ここが肝心な時だ」「正念場だ」そんな気持ちを時々感じながら過ごしています。
(You might say,)

- Finding the right partner is everything to me at the moment.

私の子どもたちは私の全てだ。 - This project at work is everything and has to be finished or I’m finished.
このプロジェクトの任務、仕事はすべてであり、完了しなければならない。さもなければ、私は終わりだ。 - I’m saving for a house and even though as a Christian, I’m not allowed to say it, right now, money is everything.
私は家のために貯蓄している。クリスチャンとしては、そんなことを言うことは許されないが、今はお金がすべてだ。 - I don’t ask for much in life but to enjoy my life, health is everything.

It’s tempting to think like this and in some ways, it makes sense.
このように考えてみるのは最もですし、道理にかなっています。
But it’s wrong.
しかし、それは実は、間違っています。
Jesus said that we are to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things would be provided.
イエスは、まず神の御国とその義とを求めなければならないと言いました。その後、他のすべてのものが与えられると言いました。
If Jesus is your Lord and Saviour then this promise of provision is good news.
イエスがあなたの主であり、救い主であるなら、この「備えてくれる」という約束は福音、良い知らせであるはずです。
We are to believe this, and we are to demonstrate our belief by trusting God with the most important things in our lives.
私たちはこの「神が備えてくれる」という約束を信じるべきであり、先ほどあげたように、家族、お金、仕事、健康など、私たちが人生で重要であると思っていることに対して「神を信じる」という確固たる信念を持たなくてはなりません。
Two things to note here:
ここで2つのことについてお話しします：
- Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God”.
まず神の国と神の義とを求めなさい。とイエスは言われました。
He didn’t say seek only the Kingdom of God.
イエスは「まず神の国を求めなさい」といい、「神の国だけを求めなさい」とは言いませんでした。
It’s not a call to avoid work, or neglect relationships or be careless with money because all we think about is God.
私たちの考えの全ては神を求めることだからと言って、嫌な仕事を避けたり、人との関係を怠ったり、お金を無駄にしたりしてもいいということではなく、 何よりもまず「神を第一に優先すること」が私たちの使命だということです。
So this is not a call to laziness.
ですから、神を優先すること以外は、何もしなくて良い、怠けてもいいのだということを言っているのではありません。
We can work towards the other things that mean so much to us, and we’re encouraged to do that.
私たちは、もちろん、家族、お金、仕事、健康などを大切にすることもできますし、神様も私たちの大切に思っていることは応援してくださいます。
But this is a call to prioritise our lives, putting God first, before all else; and it’s a call to include God in every area of our lives and to trust Him in every area of our lives.
しかし、みなさんに覚えていていただきたいのは、何よりもまず神を第一に優先すること、人生のすべてにおいて神を含め、人生のすべてにおいて神を信頼することが求められているということです。
- Look at this list of God’s blessings:
今からあげるのは、それぞれ神の祝福です。この神の祝福のリストを見てください：
Family, wealth, health, friends, music, ministry, rest
家族、富、健康、友人、音楽、宣教、休息
Each of these are a blessing of God.
これらは全て神からの祝福です。
But any one of these blessings can also become an idol in our lives if we let it.
しかし、もし私たちが注意していなければ、これらの祝福のどれかが私たちの生活の中で、私たちを支配するようになることがあります。
If we allow any of these blessings to become more important to us, more valuable to us, more delightful to us than God, then we find ourselves guilty of idolatry.
家族、富、健康、友人、音楽、宣教、休息という、これらの祝福のどれかが、私たちにとって、神よりもより重要になってしまい、より喜びとなってしまったなら、それらを神よりも崇拝してしまうという、偶像崇拝の罪を犯していることになってしまいます。
Whenever we put the gift above the gift-giver, we need to repent, and seriously re-prioritise our lives.
私たちが、贈り物をくださる「贈り主」より、「贈り物」のことを大切に思ってしまったなら、私たちは悔い改めをし、人生の優先順位を真剣に考え直す必要があります。
The call is to seek first God’s Kingdom in every area of our lives.
人生のすべてにおいてまず神の御国を求めることが私たちに求められていることです。
Are you willing to do this without compromise?
あなたはどうでしょうか？人生のこの部分はいいけど、この部分だけはどうしても諦められないなどという、葛藤や妥協はないでしょうか？

Mini-message #2 Hopes and Dreams
希望と夢

This mini-message is more of a meditation than a message.
次の短いお話は、メッセージというよりは、瞑想をする時間にしたいと思います。
We’ve been looking at seeking God and the promise that when we seek Him with all of our hearts, He will be found.
神を求めることと、心をつくして神を求めるなら、神は見つけられるという約束のことを、お話してきました。
We’ve looked at the call to prioritise seeking God above every other pursuit in our lives.
ほかの何よりもまず神を求めることを優先することを、お話してきました。
Well, let’s seek God now by meditating on His Word, and praying over that meditation.
さて今から、神の言葉を巡らせ、瞑想し、その瞑想の中で、祈って神を求めましょう。
Listen with keen ears and hungry hearts.
耳をよく傾け、渇望するような気持ちで神に聞きましょう。
Let’s bow for prayer and meditation. Read Isaiah 55:6-13.
祈りと瞑想を持って、神に敬意を払いましょう。イザヤ書５５章６−１３節を読みます。
God puts dreams and hopes in our hearts. And these hopes and dreams are an important part of our lives as well as the blessings that we looked at earlier.
神は私たちの心の中に夢と希望をくださいます。そして希望や夢、人生の目標を持つことは神からの祝福であり、最初にお話しした、家族、富、健康、友人、音楽、宣教、休息と同様に大切です。
Now, we need to be wise and discerning because some of those dreams and hopes are from our flesh, they come from our old, selfish nature.
しかし、それらの夢や希望のいくつかは、神からいただいたものではなく、私たち自身の欲望によることがあるので、私たちは賢明でいて、物事を見分ける必要があります。私たちの夢や希望や目標のように見えるものの中には、私たちが生まれ変わる前の、利己的な性質から生まれた、「ただそうしたいからする。」という、自分の欲望である場合があります。
They’re not of God’s Kingdom.

But some of our dreams and hopes are of God and they can become a great blessing to us and to others.
しかし、独りよがりに見える夢や希望の中にも神に与えられたものがありますし、私たちが夢、希望、目標を持つことは、自分自身や他の人々にも祝福になりえます。
They are both the desires of our heart, and they are the pleasure of God.
なぜかというと、私たちの心の欲望、私たちが欲していることは、神の喜びでもあるからです。
God made each of us unique with gifts and talents and interests and passions, and He delights in us as we use them to build our hopes and dreams, just as we delight in Him as we use them.
神は私たち一人一人に、賜物、才能、興味、情熱を与えて、個性を作ってくださいました。そして、私たちが希望や夢を築いていくために、神からいただいた賜物、才能、興味、情熱を喜んで使うとき、神も同じように喜んでくださいます。
The dreams and hopes, the life goals in your heart – they might seem very small and silly, or they might seem ridiculously big and impossible, they might be majestic areas of ministry, or they might be simple personal pleasures – it doesn’t matter, share them with God, ask Him to bless you and guide you in them.
あなたの心の中の夢や希望、人生の目標 – それらは非常にちっぽけでバカバカしく思えるかもしれません。あるいは、あなたの夢や希望、目標は、大きすぎて、現実不可能に思えるかもしれません。あなたの夢や目標は単純に個人的な喜びかもしれませんし、壮大な宣教活動かもしれません。しかし、あなたの夢、希望、目標を神と分かち合って、祝福をいただき、それらの夢にあなたを導いてくれるように、神に願ってください。
Seek Him, seek His blessing and His leading in these things.
神を求め、あなたの夢、希望、目標について神の祝福と導きを求めてください。
Now, before we do, how can we know if these things are just selfish desires or if they really are something that God delights in?
今から、私たちは自分たちの夢、希望、目標について祈りますが、祈る前に質問があります。先ほど言いましたが、みなさん、自分の夢や目標が、ただの利己的な欲望であるか、あるいは本当に神が喜ばれるものであるかどうかを、どうやって見分けることができると思いますか？
This is actually pretty easy to discern. We only have to ask ourselves one thing.

We find it written in the last verse of the passage we just read in Isaiah. Listen to it again:

This will be for the Lord’s renown.

The only thing we have to ask ourselves is, are our hopes and dreams for the Lord’s renown, or are they for your renown?

Consider what your hopes and dreams and life goals are.

Who gets the glory in them?
あなたの夢や目標によって、誰が名誉を得ますか？誰の名誉になりますか？
Don’t be mistaken.
しかし、誤解しないでください。
Our simple pleasures and big dreams – even if they seem to have no direct relation to ministry – can glorify God.
わたしたちが、単に喜びを感じること、大きなを夢を持つことは、たとえそれらが宣教や神に直接関係していなくても、神に栄光を与えることができます。
It doesn’t have to be all holy, holy, holy.

But what we have to check is our motivations and our priorities.

What’s at the heart of our desires, God’s pleasure or our pleasure?

It’s okay if it’s both.

But are we seeking God’s Kingdom first or are we seeking our own kingdom first?

One part of answering this question is understanding our own motivations, and another part is knowing the will of God.

We’re going to look in some detail at knowing the will of God next week. For today, we’re examining our own lives and motivations, to determine if the hopes and dreams in our hearts are for our glory, or if they are for God’s glory.

The hopes and dreams that are good and godly, we ask God in confidence to bless and make fruitful.

Let’s read the passage one more time (in English only, Japanese will be on the screen), and pray quietly about what God is saying to you personally through it.
