5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.

Introduction

Good morning! What is my state of mind today? How do I feel? I would like to borrow and paraphrase the words of the apostle Paul describing his time in Corinth:
おはようございます。今日の私の精神状態はどんなものでしょうか。私は何を感じているのでしょうか。パオルがコリントで過ごした時間を説明した文章を引用しながら私の今の気持ちを皆さんに伝いたいと思います。

And I, brethren, when I come to you, do not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I am with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling….

単純しかもすばらしい教え
2 愛する皆さん。私が初めて皆さんのところへ行った時、神のことばを伝えるのに、難しいことば遣いをしたり、高度な理論をふりまわしたりはしませんでした。 2 イエス・キリストと、その十字架上の死以外は語るまいと決心したからです。 3 私は弱々しく、おずおずと震えおののきながら、あなたがたのところへ行きました。 4 また私の説教も、説得力ある雄弁なことばや人間的な知恵にはほど遠く、単純そのものでした。しかし、そのことばには神の力があって、聞く人々は、それが神からのことばだとわかったのです。 5 私がそうしたのは、あなたがたの信仰が、人間のすぐれた思想にではなく、神に根ざしてほしかったからです。

But, why use negative words such as weakness, fear and trembling? The apostle Paul has positive reasons for saying so. Personally, I can identify several things:
しかし、「弱々しい」や「おずおず」や「震え」のようなネガティブな単語をなぜ使うのですか。パウロはそれらのネガティブな単語を使うにはポジティブな理由があります。多くの点において、私は彼の気持ちがわかります。

• I have big shoes to fill.

Pastor Andrew has done a terrific job being the Senior Pastor of MIC for many years. I do thank God for his life and ministry, but he is a tough act to follow.

• Awareness of my own limitations.

My Japanese language ability is poor. I certainly want to get to know people, esp. our Japanese constituency, and be effective in reaching out to them and those outside, but I know it will take a long while to achieve. Please bear with me.

• Expectations.

New leadership naturally carries with it new hopes and high expectations. I make no promises but we all desire to see positive results.

Having said these things, I would like us to consider this morning how the holy Scriptures present to us Christian workers. How they should be regarded. How should we relate to them?
これらのことを言った後、聖書で我ら「キリスチャン同僚」にはどんな指示があるのか見てみたいです。そして、私たちはどのようにその指示に従って、実行できるかを考えていきたい。

1. They are MINISTERS – verse 5a
   彼らは神に仕える者であるー5a節

1. Ministers are servants.
   聖職者は「仕える者」です

A minister is, literally, “a servant,” but the word has taken on a broader meaning in religious circles. Today, a Christian minister is seen as someone authorized to conduct religious services. He leads worship services, administrates a church, or conducts weddings and funerals. Synonyms of minister are clergy and pastor. But, ministers are really servants.
聖職者というのは、文字通りに「仕える者」です。しかし、今日の宗教的現場でこの単語はもっと広い意味を含むようになっています。今日、キリスト教の聖書者は「宗教上の役割」を果たす責任があります。彼は、礼拝の指揮をとり、教会の業務上の仕事を果たし、結婚式やお葬式を行います。その同意語として、「神父」や「牧師」が使われていますが、聖職者は本当に「仕える者」です。

Augustine (A.D. 354~430): “For you, I am Bishop [Pastor], but with you, I am a Christian. The first is an office accepted, the second a grace received; one a danger, the other safety. If then I am gladder by far to be redeemed with you than I am to be placed over you, I shall, as the Lord commanded, be more completely your servant.”
神学者のアウガスティヌスは(354~430年）こう言った「あなたたちにとって、私は司教です。しかし、あなたたちと私はキリスチャンです。司教は私が受け入れた職です。キリスチャンは私がもらった神の愛です。一つは危険な者です。もう一つは安全な者です。そして、
あなたたちの上に立つよりはあなたたちと一緒に立つのが私の幸せですので、神様の指示通りに私はあなたたちの仕える者として、頑張っていきます。

2. Ministers proclaim the “whole counsel of God.”
   聖書者は「神のご計画全体」を宣言する

What is it that the people came to believe in? The apostle Paul gives us a glimpse of what he typically preached to them. Let’s take a look at his words in Acts 20 starting in verse 17.
人々は当時何を信じたのですか？パオルは当時の人々に典型的に何を教えたかを次の聖書の引用文から見てみましょう。

17 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18 And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19 serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20 how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
22 And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. 25 “And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

Acts 20:17-31

18 集まった長老たちに、パウロは語りました。「私が小アジヤに足を踏み入れて以来、どんなふうに生きてきたかは、よくご存じですね。 19 私は謙遜の限りを尽くし、涙を流しながら、神のために働いてきました。ユダヤ人には命をつけねらわれ、危険な目に会ったのも、一度や二度ではありません。 20 それでも、ためらわず真理を語りました。個人的にばかりでなく、堂々と多くの人々の前でも。 21 また、ユダヤ人にもギリシヤ人にも、罪から離れ、主イエス・キリストを信じて神に立ち返るように勧めました。
22 今、聖霊が、どうにも逆らえない強い力で、私をエルサレムへ行かせるのです。そこで何が待ち受けているか見当もつきません。 23 ただわかっているのは、行く先々の町で投獄と苦難が待っていると、聖霊が告げてくださったことだけです。 24 しかし、主イエスがしなさいと言われた務めをやり遂げるためなら、こんな取るに足らぬ命でも、喜んで投げ出す覚悟はできています。その務めとは、神の恵みの福音を伝えることです。
25 皆さん。これまで何回か、あなたがたのところを訪問し、神の国のことを教えた私ですが、もう二度とお目にかかることもないでしょう。 26 ですから、今ここで、はっきり宣言します。あなたがたがどんなさばきを受けることになろうと、私の責任ではありません。 27 私は、神のご計画全体を何もかも話しておいたからです。
28 注意しなさい。あなたがたは、神の羊たち〔神がキリストのいのちと引き替えに買い取った教会〕を養い育てる立場にあるのです。このことをしっかり肝に銘じておきなさい。いいですか、聖霊があなたがたに、監督者としての責任をお与えになったのです。 29 私が去ったあと、狂暴な狼のような偽教師たちが忍び込み、群れを荒らし回るでしょう。 30 それだけではありません。あなたがたの中からも、弟子を自分の側に引き込みたいばかりに真理を曲げる者が出るでしょう。 31 だから、よく見張っていなさい。私といっしょに過ごした三年間を忘れてはいけません。昼も夜も目を離さず、あなたがたのために流してきた私の涙を思い出してください。

2. Their calling and responsibility is from God – verses 5b & 8
   彼らの使命と責任は神様からのものでした　5b節と8節

1. 5 “As the Lord gave to each one”
   それぞれに特別の能力が与えられて

The Lord has delegated authority to His servants as He has given them their respective roles and functions.
神様は自分の仕える者にそれぞれの責任と役割を与えられています。

Using the imagery of a gardener or farmer, Paul refers to himself as a planter. As a farmer/planter, he had to till the ground and plant the seed of the gospel. Likewise, he refers to Apollos as another minister or servant. But, his duty is a little different from Paul’s. He waters the seed that was planted. Planting may take some time, but it’s relatively shorter compared to watering the plant. Water is needed constantly over a season or seasons.
庭職人または農民のイメージを利用して、パウロは自分が「種をまく者」であると説明した。農民として、彼は畑を耕し、福音の種を蒔いた。同様に彼はアポロが仕える者であったが、彼の役割はパオルとちょっと違っていた。彼の役割はその種に水を与えることだった。種を蒔くことまで時間はかかりますが、水を与えることに比べると、時間的に短いです。なぜなら、水を与えることは何年に渡って、何回も繰り返してやらないといけないからです。

Paul & Apollos have distinct responsibilities or functions, but they work toward the same goal. That is, either to reap a harvest or to “receive his own reward according to his own labor” (v.8). Either way, their calling and responsibility are from God.
パオルとアポロの役割はそれぞれ違っていたが、彼らは同じ目標に向かって頑張りました。それは収穫を得るためまたは「それぞれ、その労苦に従って報酬を受けるでしょう」（第８節）。どちらにしよう、彼らの使命と責任は神様から与えられたものでした。

Ultimately, their employer is God and they are accountable to Him.
最終的に彼らの雇い主は神様ですので、彼らは神様にその責任の成果を報告する義務がある。

Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.
17 Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

Hebrews 13:7 & 17 – 7

7 神のことばを教えてくれた指導者たちのことを思い出しなさい。その生活からにじみ出た、すべての良いものに心をとめなさい。そして、彼らに見ならって、主を信じなさい。
17 教会の指導者たちの言うことを聞き、服従しなさい。彼らの務めは、あなたがたのたましいを見守ることだからです。彼らには、その役目をどれだけ忠実に果たしたか、神に報告する義務があるのです。彼らが、悲しみながらではなく、喜んで報告できるようにしてあげなさい。そうすることは、あなたがたのためでもあるのです。

3. Their effectiveness depends on God – verses 6~7
   彼らの有効性は神様に頼るものです　第6−７節

6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

These are sobering words yet they give us comfort. We know that growth is possible and can happen as the Lord blesses us. It doesn’t depend on budget, building or baptisms. For something to be of God should come from the demonstration of His power and Holy Spirit.
ハッとするような言葉ですが、安心させる言葉でもある。神様の祝福があると教会としても、人としても、成長は必ずあります。それは予算、建物や洗礼によるものではありません。神のものである証は、神の力と精霊の働きから示されます。

Conclusion
結論・実行

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Brothers and sisters, as we embark on this journey together, let’s move forward in hope, faith, wisdom and power of God.
みなさん、この旅に一緒に出発するこの時点に、神様の力、知恵、信仰と希望を持って、前へ進みましょう。

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’
Says the Lord of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6

6 「これは、ゼルバベルへの神のことばだ。『権力によるのでも、能力によるのでもなく、わたしの霊によって』と全能の主が言われる。あなたがたは少数で、弱いが、わたしの霊のゆえにやり遂げることができる。
