Is baptism necessary?
バプテスマは必要ですか？
It is necessary for salvation and is it necessary to live a good Christian life?

She is, after all, as she has testified, already a believer.

She has already made the confession that we looked at a couple of weeks ago in Romans 10, that

So why the baptism?

Is water baptism necessary?
水の洗礼は必要でしょうか？
For salvation, no.
救われるためだとすれば、必要ではありません。
The thief on the cross confessed his sins, turned to Christ and was accepted by Him, yet the thief was never baptised – he never had the chance!
十字架上に貼り付けられた泥棒は自分の罪を告白し、キリストに向かい、キリストによって受け入れられましたが、その泥棒は決してバプテスマを受けることはありませんでした。彼は洗礼を受けるチャンスがなかったのです。
Yet scripture makes a very close connection between baptism and salvation.
それでも聖句はバプテスマと救いとを非常に密接に結びつけています。
On the day of Pentecost, Peter said to the crowd,

In Acts 10:47 we see a similar connection between baptism and spiritual renewal, only in the reverse order. Peter says,

What’s really important here – what’s right at the heart of baptism – is explained by Peter in his first letter (1 Peter 3:21):

The water baptism itself is not the real baptism.
水の洗礼自体は本当の洗礼ではありません。
The water is only a symbol of the real baptism.

The real baptism is the initial redemptive work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of the believer.
本当の洗礼は信じる者の心のうちにおこる聖霊の贖いのはたらきです。
This is the baptism that is necessary for salvation. That’s why Jesus said in John 3 that you can’t enter the kingdom of heaven unless you are born again of water and the Spirit.
これは救いのために必要なバプテスマです。だから、イエスは、あなたが水と御霊から再び生まれない限り、あなたが天の国に入ることができないと、ヨハネによる福音書のの3章で言っています。
That’s why John the baptist said,
洗礼者ヨハネが次のように言ったのには理由があります。
John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance.

Jesus’ baptism is a baptism of the Holy Spirit.

This is what was foretold long ago by the prophet Ezekiel (11:19) when God said through him,

This is a big deal.

Ezekiel actually prophesied this twice, Jeremiah once, and the writer of Hebrews repeated it again just in case it was missed the first few times.

Baptism is all about new life in the Spirit.

It’s about life that has been made new:

a transformed mind, a changed heart, a renewed spirit, by God’s Spirit who enters our heart when we receive His Son as Lord.

The water of baptism is an outward symbol of this inward work of the Holy Spirit.
水の洗礼は聖霊の内なるはたらきを外に示すことです。
I love the way Paul put it in his letter to Titus (3:3-7):
私はパウロがタイタスへの手紙の中でそのことをうまく書いていると思います。（3：3-7
This is the gospel! This is what water baptism symbolises.
これは福音です！これは水の洗礼が象徴するものです。
So, water baptism itself is not necessary for salvation but what it symbolises (Spirit baptism) is necessary for salvation.
水の洗礼自体は救いに必要ではありませんが、水の洗礼が象徴している「霊的な洗礼」が救いに必要です。
Imee has been born again and has been renewed by the Holy Spirit, and the baptism she will undergo today symbolises that wonderful work.
アイミーは再び生まれ変わり、聖霊によって新しくされました。今日、彼女が受ける洗礼は素晴らしいことの始まりを象徴しています。
She will be baptised into Christ. In so doing, she will also be baptised, in a secondary sense, into the body of Christ, our church here in Minoh.

In witnessing this baptism, we, her brothers and sisters in the Christian family here, pledge to take care of her, to support her, encourage her, teach her, correct her, pray for and with her, and to make her joy complete.

The Bible says that when one sinner turns to God, all of heaven celebrates.
