Introduction

Have you visited our website recently? If you check the heading, “About Us” and follow the link on, “What We Believe,” you’ll see this statement under the heading, “Our Belief” (the 6th item): “We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit endows us with all spiritual fruits, and gifts according to His will.”

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of power. He is the One who makes us fruitful and enables us to function according to His will. The coming of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost is pivotal not only to Christian history but to the very existence of the church in the world.
精霊は力の精霊であることを信じます。精霊の意志によって、私たちは成果を持ち、有意義な人生を送れます。ペンテコステの日に精霊が降臨してくれたことはクリスチャンの歴史には大事な出来事でしたが、教会の存在そのものにも大事なことです。

Do you know that today is Pentecost Sunday? In Italy it was customary to scatter rose petals from the ceiling of the churches to recall the miracle of the fiery tongues; hence in Sicily and elsewhere in Italy Whitsunday is called Pasqua rosatum. The Italian name Pasqua rossa comes from the red colors of the vestments used on Whitsunday.
今日はペンテコステであることを知っていますか。イタリアでは、この日に教会の天井からバラの花びらをばらまく習慣がありました。それは「燃える炎の舌」を思い出すためでした。だから、シチリア島とイタリアの様々なところで精霊降臨日を「パスクア・ロサタム」と呼ばれています。イタリア語では「パスクア・ロサ」は精霊降臨日に聖職が着る赤い服から来ています。

But, what really is Pentecost? [Three things]

Pentecost is historically and symbolically related to the Jewish harvest festival of Shavuot, which commemorates God giving the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai fifty days after the Exodus.

Among Christians, Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus after His resurrection (coming back to life). For this reason, Pentecost is sometimes described as the “Birthday of the Church”. Also, the Pentecostal movement of Christianity derives its name from this biblical event. The feast is also called Whit Sunday, Whitsun, or Whit.

What an awesome day it must have been on that first Shavuot (Pentecost) after Jesus’ death, resurrection and ascension to glory! Just imagine the scene . . .

In short, they couldn’t understand what’s going on. It was a miracle, of course.

When Jesus lived in Israel over 2000 years ago, it is estimated that there were upwards of 100,000 Israeli Jews who believed in Him. However, today in the Holy Land there are only about 8,000 Israeli Jews who believe in Yeshua out of the 5.5 million Jewish people! (SOURCE: Messianic Bible online newsletter)

Conclusion
結論

  • Pentecost is an EVENT to be remembered.
    ペンテコステ記憶に刻むべき出来事です。

Let’s not forget it, but remember it and be encouraged. The church that our Lord Jesus Christ established has its roots in Jerusalem and is a historical fact.
ペンテコステを忘れてはいけません。ペンテコステを思い出して、励まされましょう。イエス様が設立してくれた「教会」はエルサレムにルーツを持ち、歴史的事実です。

  • Pentecost is an EXPERIENCE (an encounter) with God the Holy Spirit.
    ペンテコステは神である精霊との出会いです。

God gave us the Holy Spirit to abide with us forever (1 John 3:24; 4:13). Therefore, be filled by the Holy Spirit. Don’t live life by yourself and according to the dictates of your flesh.
神様が永遠のために精霊を与えてくれたのです。だから、精霊に満たされ。肉体に導いた人生ではなく、精霊に導いた人生を送りましょう。

  • Pentecost is an EXAMPLE of life transformed by the Spirit of God lived out daily before God, in the world and among the community of the redeemed
    ペンテコステは実例です。神様の前で、神様を信じる人と共に、精霊によって変えられた人生を送る実例です。

Living out the Christian life is not through self-effort and discipline alone. We need the Holy Spirit to fill us, guide us and empower us.
自分の努力と訓練でクリスチャンの人生を送ることができません。必要なものは精霊に満ちた、精霊に導いた、精霊に与えられた力です。
