Talking a lot about the Holy Spirit: Counselor, Comforter
One of his works: Guides us into all truth. (John 16:13-15) “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth… He (the Spirit) will bring glory to me (Jesus) by taking from what is mine and making it known to you (us). All that belongs to the Father (God) is mine, and the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you (us).”
*Not so much about true and false, or even righteousness vs. folly, but God’s will.
*God’s will in my life.
Doing God’s will is most important, because through it, we glorify God.
*That’s our aim in life: To glorify God and to enjoy God forever.
Without the Holy Spirit, we can’t know what his will is.
And if we are disconnected from Jesus, we can’t accomplish anything of worth. (John 15:5)
God’s will is not difficult to know. A lot of it has been already revealed in the Bible.
*We overthink and ask God the wrong question.
*Not, “God, what’s your will for my life?” How about, “God, help me to exercise your will in my life.”
1) It’s God’s will that none should perish. (2 Peter 3:9) “The Lord is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
*Join God in his work: evangelism: the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20) “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation… And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”
*Previous verse 17 does not stand alone…God saved us, so that we can join his work in saving others.
*There is no higher calling…There is no greater joy.
2) It’s God’s will that we build the church. (Matthew 28:19-20) “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
*Are we coming to church to be served, or to serve?
*Let’s get rid of the consumer mentality.
3) It’s God’s will that we go and bear fruit. (John 15:16) “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.
*Bearing fruit is not about building your self-image or self-gratification.
*We bear fruit, so that people may see our fruit and give glory to God (Matthew 5:16)
*We bear fruit, so that people may draw nearer to God (John 13:34-35)
Building a foundation (of life…your life’s work) that lasts. (1 Corinthians 3:10-15)
I want my life to count for the Kingdom! Let’s follow God’s will and make our life count for things that last unto eternity.
