I’m going to come back to this guy in a minute.
すぐ後で、このグレン・ゴーバスについて話をします。しばらく待っていてください。

Today I’d like to talk about ‘The Righteous Person’ because the Bible talks about this a lot. The word righteous appears almost 500 times in the Bible. Some incredible statements appear about righteousness that should change the way we think, and the way we focus our lives.
聖書では『義なる人』についてよく書かれていますので、今日はこの、『義なる人』「正しい人」についてお話したいと思います。「義」、正義という言葉は、聖書の中では約500回触れられます。私たちの人生について、焦点を変えて、私たちの考え方や見方を変えなければならないという「義」について、いくつかの信じられない陳述がされています。

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
Genesis 15:6

アブラムは主を信じた。主はこれを彼の義と認められた。
創世記15:6

Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Psalm 5:12

主よ、あなたは正しい者を祝福し、盾をもってするように、恵みをもってこれをおおい守られます。

Righteousness and Unrighteousness
正義と不義

Being righteous is a big deal. It’s the difference between pleasing God and grieving God.
義であること、正義でいることは大変なことです。正義と不義は、「神を喜ばせること」と「神を悲しませること」というように違います。

It’s the difference between receiving God’s favour and receiving no favour.
正義と不義は、「神の恵みを受けること」と「恩恵を受けないこと」というように違います。

It’s the difference between eternal life and eternal death.
正義と不義は、「永遠の命」と「永遠の死」のように違います。

We need to know what it means to be righteous.
私たちは「正しいこと」とは一体、何を意味するのかを知る必要があります。

Righteousness 正義	Unrighteousness 不義
Pleasing God 神を喜ばせる	Greiving God 神を悲しませる
God’s Favor 神の恵み	No Favor 恵みなし
Eternal Life 永遠の命	Eternal Death 永遠の死

Don’t be deceived in this matter. There is a very big difference between the righteousness of the God and the righteousness of the world. There are plenty of people in the world who don’t know God, who are not Christian, but have have done some very good things. These people have devoted their lives to making the world a better place.
「正しいこと」に騙されてはいけません。「神の義」と「この世の義」との間には非常に大きな違いがあります。世界にはキリスト教徒ではない神を知らない人がたくさんいます。その人達はクリスチャンではありませんが、この世で非常に良いことをたくさん行なっています。これらの人々は、この世をより良い場所にするために命を捧げました。

People like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama and so on. Not only them. Countless unknown charity workers, doctors and kindergarten teachers every day selflessly give their lives in service to others. Shouldn’t they be considered righteous?
ガンジー、ネルソンマンデラ、ダライラマなどの人々。その人々だけでなく、数え切れないくらいの、誰にも知られていない慈善事業者、医者、教師、幼稚園の先生たちが毎日、「正しいこと」をしているのだとは考えなくとも、無意識のうちに他の人たちに奉仕しています。彼らは「正しい」「義人」だと見なされるべきではありませんか？

Only by the standards of this world.
しかし、ここで考えてもらいたいのは「この世の基準によってのみ」ということです。

Righteous status with God can’t be earned by good behaviour. It’s impossible because our own righteousness falls so far short of God’s.
神との正しい関係は「良い行動によって得られるのではない」。私たち自身の「正義」と呼ばれるものが神の手にはほど遠いので、この世の「正義」を持って神に近づくことは不可能です。神と義なる関係をもつことは、良いふるまいによって得られるのではありません。

This brings us back to Glen Gorbous and that incredible baseball throw. No-one can throw a ball as far as that guy. But trying to get to heaven on our own merit and through our own good deeds, is like trying to throw a baseball across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to America.
これは私たちに、グレン・ゴーバスとその素晴らしい野球人生を思い出させます。誰もグレンのように遠くまでボールを投げることはできません。しかし、私たちが獲得した自身の善行、「善い行い」によって天国に到達しようとすることは、太平洋を越えて日本からアメリカへ野球の球を投げようとするようなものです。

Glen Gorbous is going to throw that thing a lot further than we can, but it’s not even going to go close to reaching America. Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama are most probably much better people than we are, but they are not even going to come close to getting to heaven on their own merit.
グレンゴーバスは誰よりも球を投げることができますが、その球でさえ、アメリカに近づくことさえできません。ガンジー、ネルソン・マンデラ、ダライ・ラマは、おそらく私たちよりもはるかに優れた人ですが、彼らは自分が得た業績で天国に近づくことはありません。

Why not? Because regardless of how good someone’s public (or private) works might be, inside the heart of all people, are all kinds of bad things.
何故でしょう？公私ともに行なった誰かの業績が、どれほど優れているかにもかかわらず、すべての人の心の中には、あらゆる「悪」があるからです。

Jesus said,
イエスはこう言いました。

“For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Mark 7:21-23

すなわち内部から、人の心の中から、悪い思いが出て来る。不品行、盗み、殺人、姦淫、・欲、邪悪、欺き、好色、妬み、誹り、高慢、愚痴。これらの悪はすべて内部から出てきて、人をけがすのである」。
マルコによる福音書7:21-23

And no-one is free from these things.
そして誰一人として、これらの「悪」から自由にはなれません。

We’ve spent a lot of time recently in the book of Romans. And there we found a universal problem: No-one is righteous.
私たちは最近ローマ人の書で多くの時間を費やしました。そしてそこに、私たちは普遍的な問題を見つけました：「義人はひとりもいない。」ということを学びました。

There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.
Romans 3:10-12

義人はいない、ひとりもいない。悟りのある人はいない、神を求める人はいない。すべての人は迷い出て、ことごとく無益なものになっている。善を行う者はいない、ひとりもいない。

If that’s true, then what are we to make of righteousness? Why does the Bible spend so much time talking about righteousness, if absolutely no-one is righteous? Seems like a bit of a tease.
それが本当であれば、私たちはどのような「義」を行うことができるのでしょうか？なぜ聖書が正義について話すのに時間を費やすのですか？ちょっとした冗談のように思えますよね。

Billy is a pretty big name in the fitness world, and about 10 years ago he was a household name here in Japan. And while he was living here, he was a member of our church.
ビリーはフィットネス界ではかなり有名です。約10年前、彼はここ日本で家庭を持っていました。彼がここに住んでいる間、彼は私たちの教会の一員でした。

He made something of a stir early on in our midst when he declared one day that he was not a sinner. That seemed very heretical because we know that everyone is a sinner.
彼がある日、「自分は罪人ではない」と宣言したとき、私たち兄弟姉妹の間にちょっとした騒ぎが起こりました。私たちは皆が罪人であることを知っているので、それは非常に異端的な発言でした。

But in essence, he was right. Because of his faith in Christ, there is now no condemnation upon him. He has been saved by grace, and declared righteous by God. As it says in Romans,

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

He, like all Christians, is no longer a sinner, but righteous!
彼は、すべてのキリスト教徒のように、もはや罪人ではなく、正義の者です。

As Billy freely admitted, although he wasn’t a sinner, he still sinned. So this comes down to the difference between
ビリーが堂々と言ったように、彼は罪人ではなかったが、彼はまだ罪を犯しています。だからこれは「義なる関係をもつこと」と「義なるふるまいをすること」の違いを知ることにかかっています。

• Having a righteous status, and
  義なる関係をもつ
• Having righteous behaviour.
  義なるふるまいをする

Righteous status has to do with our legal status before God. God declares us righteous before Him because of our faith in His Son Jesus. (This is otherwise known as salvation).
神との義なる関係は、神の御前での私たちの律法的立場と関係してきます。御子イエスに対する私たちの信仰によって、神は、私たちを正しいと言ってくださいます。これは救いとも呼ばれます。（義なる関係は神の御前での私たちの律法的立場と関係してきます。救い）

Righteous behaviour has to do with our deeds, apart from our status before God. (This is otherwise known as sanctification).
義なるふるまいは、神の御前での私たちの律法的立場とは違って、私たちの行為、行いと関係してきます。 これは、私たちが清らかになること、神聖化とも呼ばれます。（義なるふるまいは私たちの行ないと関係してきます。聖別）

Having a righteous status with God has to do with a relationship. When we are saved and declared righteous, God calls us His children and that is a permanent relationship, just as my own children will always permanently be my children, no matter where they go or what they do.
神と義なる関係を持つことは、神とどれだけ結びついているかに関係があります。わたしたちが神によって救われ正しいとされたとき、神は私たちを「神の子供たち」と呼びます。それはまるで、私たちの子供たちがどこに行っても、彼らがどこで何をしていても、永遠に私たちの子供であることに変わりはないというような永続的な関係です。（神と義なる関係をもつことは結びつきと関係してきます。）

Righteous behaviour before God has to do with fellowship. When we are living righteously, we are living in fellowship with God. If we sin, if we behave unrighteously as Christians, then as God’s children, our fellowship with God is temporarily broken, but our relationship with God is never broken. It’s the same with my own children. When things go wrong, if I have to discipline them, there might be a break in fellowship, but there is never a break in relationship.
神の御前での義なるふるまいとは、「交わり」ということと関係があります。私たちが義と共に生きるとき、私たちは神との「交わり」の中で生きています。私たちが罪を犯した場合、キリスト教徒として不当に行動すると、神の子どもとして、神との交わりは一時的に壊れますが、神との関係は決して壊れません。それは私たちの子供たちと同じです。物事がうまくいかないとき、私たちが子供達をしつけなければならない時、「交わり」が一時的に途切れたりする場合があるかもしれませんが、「関係」は決して途切れたりすることはありません。神の御前で義なるふるまいとは交わりと関係してきます。

So that’s what a righteous status looks like: a relationship with God through salvation in Christ.
それが「義なる関係」です。すなわち、キリストの救いによる「神との関係」です。（義なる関係　キリストにある救いを通しての神との関係）

Now, what does righteous behaviour look like? (sanctification)
さて、では、神聖化なる「義なるふるまい」とはどのようなものでしょうか？

Our righteous behaviour should match our righteous status. It should be perfectly consistent.
私たちの義なるふるまいは、私たちの義なる関係と一致するべきです。それは完全に一貫しているべきです。

John the Baptist said as much when he told us to
バプテスマのヨハネは私たちにこう言いました。

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
Matthew 3:8

悔改めにふさわしい実を結べ。
マタイによる福音書3:8

The fruitfulness in our lives should match our righteous status.
私たちの人生の中での豊かさは、私たちの神との「義なる関係」に見合っているはずです。

The Bible gives lots of practical instruction for living righteously. Lots of instruction for producing fruit. Listen up! Meditate on this:
聖書は正しい人生のために多くの実践的指導をしてくれています。聖書の中には。善い結果を得るための多くの指示があります。ですから、よく聞いてください！次の箇所を読んで、黙想してください：

We are to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:19,20

人はすべて、聞くに早く、語るにおそく、怒るにおそくあるべきである。人の怒りは、神の義を全うするものではないからである。
ヤコブの手紙1:19-20

We are to actively and consciously put to death what is earthly in us: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Colossians 3:5

だから、地上の肢体、すなわち、不品行、汚れ、情欲、悪欲、また・欲を殺してしまいなさい。・欲は偶像礼拝にほかならない。

We are to actively and continually think about whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, or worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8,9

すべて真実なこと、すべて尊ぶべきこと、すべて正しいこと、すべて純真なこと、すべて愛すべきこと、すべてほまれあること、また徳といわれるもの、称賛に値するものがあれば、それらのものを心にとめなさい。あなたがたが、わたしから学んだこと、受けたこと、聞いたこと、見たことは、これを実行しなさい。そうすれば、平和の神が、あなたがたと共にいますであろう。

We are to be be imitators of God, and walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us.
Ephesians 5:1

神に愛されている子供として、神にならう者になりなさい。また愛のうちを歩きなさい。キリストもあなたがたを愛して下さって、わたしたちのために、ご自身を、神へのかんばしいかおりのささげ物、

We are to care for one another’s needs and help each other with our burdens.
Galatians 6:2

互に重荷を負い合いなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたはキリストの律法を全うするであろう。

We are to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven us.
Ephesians 4:32

互に情深く、あわれみ深い者となり、神がキリストにあってあなたがたをゆるして下さったように、あなたがたも互にゆるし合いなさい。
エフィソの信徒への手紙4:32

We are to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another.
James 5:16

互に罪を告白し合い、また、いやされるようにお互のために祈りなさい。

Our conversation is always to be full of grace.

We are to draw near to God and purify our hearts.

We are to be obedient to God.

We are to live at peace with everyone, as much as we can.

We are to delight in the Word of God and read it daily.
Psalm 119:16

わたしはあなたの定めを喜び、あなたのみ言葉を忘れません。

It’s the righteous who please God and who receive blessing and honour from Him. Let’s make it a daily priority to praise God for the righteous status we have in Him through Christ, and pledge every day to walk in righteousness, according to the Word we have just heard.
神を喜ばせ、彼から祝福と栄誉を受ける人が、正しい人「義なる人」です。私たちが今聞いた言葉に従って、私たちがキリストを通じて持つことができる「義なる関係」を神に賞賛し、毎日、「義なるふるまい」を約束し、日々、最優先していきましょう。キリストを通して私たちが神と義なる関係をもてることに神をほめたたえる。聞いた御言葉どおりに、毎日、義なる歩みをすることを誓う。
