ペテロの第一の手紙 1:3-9
Introduction
Some 2,500 years ago King Solomon surveyed the course of human existence and concluded that life is meaningless. It’s all vanity or emptiness (Ecclesiastes 2:18-23). He saw the righteous suffer and felt that it was a form of injustice. Job must have felt much this way during his time of trial. Perhaps you too have gone through an extended trial and had questions and doubts about it.
約2,500年前、ソロモン王は人間の存在意義を調査し、人生は無意味であると結論づけました。人生はすべて虚栄であるか空虚である（伝道の書2 章18-23節）。彼は正しい行いをしている人々が苦しむのを見て、そのようなことが起こるのは不義であり不公平ではないかと感じていました。ヨブもまた自分の試練の時に同じように感じたに違いありません。おそらく、あなたも長い間試練や苦難を経験し、それについて疑問や疑いを持ったことがあるのではないでしょうか。
Now, let me pause and say that everything isn’t doom and gloom! I would like to believe, we Christians have it pretty good! Here are several reasons for rejoicing according to Peter:
さて、ここで一旦その話はやめて、「悲観的になることはない」と、私は言いたいと思います。私たちクリスチャンは、試練の中でもかなり良い状況にあるのではないかと思います。
この聖句の箇所でペテロは、私たちが試練を快く受け入れるべき理由がいくつかあると言っています。その試練を受け入れる理由とは次のようなものだとぺテロは言っています。

We have a living hope (verse 3)
私たちには生ける望みがあるから（3節） -
We have a lasting inheritance (v.4)
私たちには永続的なしぼむことのない資産があるから（4節 ） -
We have a long-term salvation (v.5)
私たちには長期的な救いがあるから（5節 ） -
We have a longed for final reward (v.7)
私たちには、最後の報いがあるから（7節）
Remembering these things, let me say that not all is bad! In fact, there is much cause for rejoicing in the Lord today! And, we ought to get into that habit already!
これらのことを思い出して、私たちの人生のすべてが悪いことばかりではないと言わせてください。むしろ、今日は主を喜ぶべきことがたくさんあります。そして、私たちは、そのように主を喜ぶという習慣を身につけなければなりません。
However, we can be certain that there will be trials along the way. We may not understand them all, nor appreciate them when they come, but we need to be prepared for them just the same.
しかし、クリスチャンとしての道のりには試練があることは確かです。私たちはそのことをすべて理解しているわけではありませんし、試練が来たときに必ずしも感謝できるわけでもありません。しかし、私たちは試練に備えて準備をしなければならないのです。
That is Peter’s purpose in this Scripture passage. He wants to encourage his readers, but he also wants to prepare them for what is surely to come. Today, let’s see what Peter’s words can teach us about our trials and why Christians suffer.
それがこの聖句の中でペテロが私たちに伝えていることなのです。ペテロは聖書の読者を励ましたいと思っていますが、同時に、来るべき試練に備えて私達に準備させようと思っています。今日は、私たちの試練について、そしてなぜクリスチャンが苦しむのかについて、ペテロの言葉がどのように私たちに何を教えてくれるのかを見てみましょう。

Rejoicing is a Christian virtue. If you spend enough time around some believers, you may come away feeling that the Christian life is one big series of trials and that there is no room for praise. In truth, we are to be a rejoicing people. We are to rejoice in spite of our troubles.
喜びはクリスチャンの美徳です。
いつも信者に囲まれて時間を過ごしていると、クリスチャンの人生とは、たくさんの試練の連続であり、賛美する気にはなれないと感じてしまうかもしれません。しかし本当は、私たちは喜べる人々でなければなりません。困難にもかかわらず、私たちは喜ぶべきなのです。 -
Redemption does not grant us immunity from trials. The believer who thinks that just because he/she is saved that they are going to be shielded from trouble is in for a very rude awakening! Being saved is no hedge from trouble!
救われたからといって、試練から免れるわけではありません。救われたからといって、試練から守られると考えている信者は、大変な羽目に陥ることになります。救われたからといって、トラブルから守られるわけではありません！
Peter calls these trying times “all kinds of trials.” Literally, it means ‘many-colored’ and was used to describe ‘the different-colored veins of marble, or an embroidered robe.’ I imagine an intricately woven kimono.
ペテロはこの試練の時を 「さまざまな試練 」と呼んでいます。文字通り「色とりどりの」ということを意味しており、「大理石の色の違う模様や、刺繍の施された羽織りのように」色とりどりな、と表現されています。私は個人的には、複雑に織り込まれた着物のことを想像します。
Christians get sick! Christian marriages fall apart. Christian parents have trouble with their children. Christians have financial troubles. Christians walk through some pretty deep, dark valleys. Jesus said it as plain as it could have been said.
クリスチャンも病気になります。 クリスチャンの結婚生活も壊れる事があります。 クリスチャンの親でも子供との間に問題を抱えています。 クリスチャンも経済的な問題を抱えています。クリスチャンでも、かなり深く暗い谷間を歩むような試練を受けることになります。このようにイエスは、試練のことを深く暗い谷間だと表現しました。
Because this trial came and took you by surprise and made you feel so insecure. Remember, it never took God by surprise! He knew about it before it happened and had already made a way to bring you out of that trial. He never changes and is still able to help you through it.
この聖句に書かれているように、試練はあなたに訪れて、あなたを驚かせ、不安にさせるのです。しかし、覚えておいてください。あなたが試練にうろたえたからと言って、神は驚いたりはしません。神はそのような試練があなたに起こる前から何が起こるかを知っていて、あなたをその試練から引き離す方法をすでに用意しておられるのです。神はいつもずっと変わらず、今でもあなたを助けてくださるのです。

Rough times are bound to happen to everyone. No one is immune from troubles and trials!
苦難の時は誰にでも起こります。 トラブルや試練を免れる人はいないのです。
Take for example the struggles of Job. His life was going well. He was blessed, had a large family and was right with God, but his life fell apart!
ヨブの苦難を例に挙げてみましょう。彼の人生は順調でした。彼は恵まれていて、大家族を持ち、神に従順に暮らしていたのですが、彼の人生は崩壊してしまいました。
Do not fall into the trap of false teachers who tell you that if you are saved you will never have trouble again. That’s a blatant lie. God wants you to know that there will be times when you will have battles!
このようにすれば、もう二度とあなたの人生に問題は起こりませんよ、と言うような偽りの教えの罠にはまってはいけません。なぜなら、あなたは神に救われたのですから。もしあなたが神に救われたのならば、苦難はもう起こらないという、そのような教えは、明らかな嘘です。神は、あなたに苦難の時、戦いの時があるということを知っていてほしいと願っておられます。

Faith is tested.
信仰は試される
The “genuineness of your faith.” When troubles do come, they seem to concentrate their power against our faith in the Lord. Satan wants to do all that he can to make Christians doubt the power of God to meet their need.
「信仰の真偽」について書かれています。私達は試練の時が来ると、主を信じる信仰に対して力を集中させるようになります。しかし、サタンは、ありとあらゆる手段を使い、私達クリスチャンに、助けてくださる神の力を疑わせようと働きかけます。
If anyone knew this, it was Peter. Jesus had already told him that he was going to die for Christ (John 21:18-19). Jesus had already told Peter to expect rejection from the world, and Peter had already suffered for his faith (Acts 4 & 12).
このことを知っている人がいるとすれば、それはペテロでした。イエス様はすでにペテロに、キリストのために自分は死ぬと伝えていました（ヨハネ21章18、19節）。また、イエス様はぺテロに、信仰のためにペテロが世間から拒絶されるだろうと伝えたので、ペテロは自身の信仰について苦しんでいました（使徒行伝４章、１２章）。
Paul knew his share of suffering. Stephen suffered for Jesus (Acts 7). James was killed for his faith (Acts 12). It’s been said that over 68 million believers have died during the last 2,000 years for the name of Jesus. Christians who find themselves suffering, especially for the faith, are in good company.
パウロはたくさんの苦難を経験し、苦しみました。ステパノはイエス様のために苦しみました（使徒7章）。ヤコブは信仰のために殺されました（使徒12 章）。過去２０００年の間に、６８００万人以上のクリスチャンがイエス様の名のために死んだと言われています。このように、特に信仰のために苦しんでいるクリスチャンは、あなた一人ではなく、たくさんいると思われます。

Faith is approved.
信仰は認められる
Peter speaks of the refining process that gold goes through. When it is subjected to the flame, the impurities and dross in the gold come to the top. The result is far purer gold than that which was present before!
ペテロは、金が火を通る精錬の過程について語っています。炎にさらされると、金の中の不純物やカスが上に浮き上がってきます。その結果、今までの金よりもはるかに純粋な金が得られるのです。
The same is true in the life of the believer, when Jesus allows us to go through the furnace of affliction, it serves to remove from our lives things that were not needed and it brings into a closer and purer relationship with the Lord Jesus.
私たち信者の人生においても同じことが言えます。イエス様が、私たちに火の炉のような試練を通らせる時、そのような苦難の時は私たちの人生から必要のないものを取り除き、主イエス様とのより親密で純粋な関係をもたらしてくれるのです。
Until Christ returns, the believer must go through testing. A faith that cannot be tested cannot be trusted.
キリストが再び帰って来られるまでは、私たち信者は試練を受けなければなりません。試練を受けることのできない信仰は、信じることもできないと思います。
Our faith isn’t tested because God doesn’t know how much or what kind of faith we have. It is tested because we often are ignorant of how much or what kind of faith we have. God’s purpose in testing is to display the enduring quality of our faith.
私たちの信仰が試されるのは、私たちの信仰がどれぐらい深いか、また私達がどのような信仰を持っているのかを神様が知らないからではありません。私たちの信仰が試される理由は、どのくらいの信仰を自分が持っているのか、または、どのような信仰を自分が持っているのかを、私たち自身が知らないことが多いからです。試練を通して私たちが、深い信仰を神様に永続的に示すことができるように、神様は私達を試されるのです。

The abundance we receive.
私たちが受け取る豊かさ
Peter nudges us to remember that we aren’t home yet! Our trials are working for our good.
ペテロは、私たちがまだ家に帰っていないことを思い出すようにと促しています。私たちの試練は私たちの道のりのためにあるのです。
We may not see the benefit today, but when we stand before the Lord in Heaven, and we are rewarded for our walk with Him and for the sufferings we endured below, it will be worth it all them.
今現在あなたは、神の恩恵を受けているようには思えないかもしれません。しかし、天国で主の前に立った時、あなたが主と共に歩んできたことと、この世で苦しみに耐えたことは報われるのです。それは全て価値のあることになるのです。
The young eagle – When it is time to leave the nest, the mother eagle will literally throw the eaglet from the nest. As he plummets to earth vainly attempting to fly, it fears sure and certain death. At the last moment, the mother swoops down from above and catches him and carries him back to the safety of the nest. This is repeated several times over the next few days. Finally, the little eaglet will spread his wings and soar upward. Eventually, he will be able to fly above all the storms below, but only because he endured the fear of falling.
ここで、若い鷲の話をしましょう。若い鷲が巣を離れる時、母親の鷲は巣から子供の鷲を投げ出します。子どもの鷲は地面に真っ逆さまに急落するように落ちていきますが、それでも必死に飛ぼうとします。若い鷲は、確実に死を恐れています。しかし最後の瞬間に、母親が上から急降下し、子の鷲をキャッチし、安全に子を巣に運び戻します。この行為が、次の数日間にわたって数回繰り返されます。そしてついに、小さな鷲は翼を広げ、上に向かって舞い上がります。やがて若い鷲は、嵐の上空でさえ飛ぶことができるようになりますが、それは落下の恐怖に耐えたからに他なりません。
Just like that mother eagle, God knows best. He will not let you crash and burn. He just allows what He does to strengthen our faith and to grow us up in Him. Let’s face it, if the Lord never challenged us, we would never grow!
母なる鷲のように、神は、私達にとって最善のものは何かということをよく知っておられるのです。神は、あなたが墜落して燃え尽きてしまうようなことはさせません。神は、試練を許すことによって、私たちの信仰を強め、神と共に私たちを成長させようとしてくださっているのです。もし主が私たちにそのような機会を与えてくれなければ、私たちは決して成長しないでしょう。

Reliable power source for the Christian – verses 8-9
クリスチャンのための信頼できる力 – 8-9節
Not that God can count on us, but that we can count on Him!
神様が私たちを頼りにするのではなく、私たちが神様を頼りにするのです！
As we weather the storms of life and see God come through time and again, we can actually learn to develop a spirit of praise as we journey toward Heaven. We will find that our unseen Savior will see us through every trial!
私たちが人生の嵐を乗り切る時、神が何度も何度も共に乗り越えてくださるのを経験します。そのような天国への旅の道中で、私たちは賛美の精神を、学び養うことができます。目に見えない救い主が、あらゆる試練の中でわたしたちを見守ってくださっていることに気づくでしょう。
Just like the shepherd in Psalm 23, He is always with His own people. When we face trials, He goes through them with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
詩篇23章に出てくる羊飼いのように、主はいつもご自分の民と共におられます。私たちが試練に直面した時、主は私たちと一緒に試練を乗り越えてくださいます。神は私たちを見捨てたり、見放したりすることは決してありません。
His grace is always sufficient for every need.
主の恵みは、あらゆる必要に応じて、常に十分にあるのです。
This ought to cause us to be filled with that “inexpressible and glorious joy” described in verse 8!
8節に書かれているように、主の恵みによって私たちは「言葉につくせない、輝きにみちた喜び」に満たされることになるはずです。
Conclusion
God brings us into deep waters not to drown us but to cleanse us. In adversity we usually want God to do a removing job when He wants to do an improving job. To realize the worth of the anchor, we need to feel the storm. To test the quality of our faith, He allows us to go through trials.
神は、私たちを溺れさせるためではなく、私たちを清めるために深い水の中に連れて行かれます。逆境の中では、私たちは通常、問題が起こった時、神が「良くするための仕事」をしたいと思っているのに、神に「取り除くための仕事」をしてほしいと願ってしまいます。海で嵐を経験したことがなければ、船のイカリの価値を理解することはできません。それと同様に、神は、私たちの信仰を試し、気付かせるために、試練を経験させてくださるのです。
I am glad for this Book that gives us hope regarding the overcoming of life’s difficult times.
人生の苦難をどう克服するかについて希望を与えてくれるこの聖書の書があることを嬉しく思います。
Do you need something from Jesus today? If so, this altar is open and Jesus is waiting and willing to help you and see that your need is met.
今日、あなたはイエス様から何かを必要としていますか？
