Keeping Cool – Kids’ Message
涼しく過ごす
It’s hot! Everywhere you go now, it’s hot. Any time of the day or night, it’s hot. Everyone you talk to, the first thing they say is, “It’s hot!”.
So today we’re going to start by looking at the best way to keep cool in the summer heat. Which way do you think is the best way to keep cool on a hot day?
- Eating ice cream
- Sitting in front of an air conditioner
- Swimming in a pool
- Having a water fight with friends
- Hiding inside a refrigerator
- Moving to the south pole
- Standing under Minoh waterfall
In the Bible it tells us how to keep cool. Did you know that? But it’s not talking about how to keep cool on a hot day, it’s talking about how to keep cool when we feel hot with anger. The Bible teaches us things like this.
Most of the time, the Bible actually teaches us to not be cool. The Bible tells us how important it is to not let our love for God and others cool down.
God actually tells us to get hot. He says that our hearts need to be like a fire.
Now, to keep a fire going you have to put fresh logs on the fire. If you never put fresh logs on a fire, it will just die out. It doesn’t matter how big and roaring a fire is, if you don’t keep putting logs on it, it will die out. In the same way, it doesn’t matter how tiny a flame is, if you put logs on it it can grow into a huge fire.
So we need to keep putting logs on. What are some spiritual logs that we can put on the fire for God in our hearts?
- Read the Bible (and other good books). That’s how God talks to us.
- Pray. That’s how we talk to God.
- Go to church. That’s how we build up our faith together.
- Share God’s Word and kindness with others. That’s how we share God’s love.
Let’s be hot in our hearts for God, even in the summer when we want to cool our bodies down.

Mini message #1 – Word In
御言葉を内に
In the kids’ message today we were looking at how important it is to have hearts of fire for God.
今日の日曜学校のメッセージでは、神様に対する情熱を心の中で抱くことが、どれだけ大切なのかをお話ししました。
In Tuesday’s church mail I was also talking about this.
火曜日にみなさんに送ったメールのメッセージの中で、私はこのことについて触れていますが、
We need to “build up” our faith and to “contend for” our faith.
私たちは、信仰を築いていかなければなりません。そして、信仰を築くために立ち向かっていかなければならないのです。
In the kids’ message we looked at four ‘logs’ that we can put on the fire of our faith:
日曜学校の子供達へのメッセージの中で、信仰を大きく燃やす、成長させる「火」にくべる「4つの薪」のことをお話ししました。

- Read the Bible

In this mini-message I want to look at just one of these ‘logs’ and that is this:
これから始める最初の短いお話の中では、まず4つの薪の一つである「聖書を読む」について考えたいと思います。
Reading the Bible. Delighting in the Word. 御言葉を喜びとする
聖書を読む時は、み言葉の中に喜びを感じてください。
- Not just reading it.
ただ単に読むだけでなく。 - Not just memorising it.
ただ単に覚えるだけでなく。 - But delighting in it.
み言葉の中に喜びを感じてください。
Having the Word of God fill us.
神の言葉を受けた時、私たちは満たされます。
The Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit and we are called to wield it.
神の言葉は聖なるつるぎです。そして私たちはそのつるぎを振りかざしなさいと命令されています。
There’s a calling on all of our lives to know the Word intimately, to delight in the Word and to allow it to lead us to the Living Word, Jesus, about whom the scriptures testify.
私たちには、神の言葉を近しく知り、生きた言葉としてイエスという証へと導かれ、神の言葉に喜びを見い出すという使命があります。
The Holy Spirit speaks through the Word to fill our hearts with the goodness of God and to led us in all truth.
聖霊はみ言葉を通して私たちに話しかけ、神の良き性質、善性によって私たちの心を満たし、真理へと導いてくれます。
Let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you. Colossians 3:16
キリストの言葉を、あなたがたのうちに豊かに宿らせなさい。コロサイの信徒への手紙3:16
Let the Word of God come into your life. Prayerfully receive it into your heart. Welcome its transformation in your mind. Let it train your spirit.
神の御言葉をあなたの人生に取り入れましょう。祈りをもってあなたの心に受け入れましょう。あなたの思いを変えてくださることを喜んで受け入れましょう。あなたの霊を鍛えてもらいましょう。

Each of these 7 scriptures I have just shared with you speak of the value of receiving the Word of God fully into your life.
ついさっき私がみなさんと一緒に読んだ7つの聖句にはいずれも、自分たちの人生の中に神のみ言葉をよく取り入れることについて、そして神のみ言葉を私たちの人生に受け入れる価値について書かれています。

Please take a copy home, pin it up somewhere where you will often see it and be reminded of the need to let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you.

Mini message #2 – Word Out
御言葉を外に
In the first mini-message we looked at fanning the flame of our faith by taking the Word of God in.
最初の短いお話の中では、神のみ言葉を取り入れることによって私たちの信仰の火を煽るということについて話をしました。
In this message we’re going to look briefly at fanning the flame of our faith by taking the Word of God out.
これから始めるお話の中では、神のみ言葉を外に向かって放つ、み言葉を話すことにより私たちの信仰の火を煽るということについて話をしましょう。
I suspect that many of us might have reservations about speaking the Word out because we fear rejection.
みなさんの中には、他人に受け入れられないであろうという恐れから、神のみ言葉を話すことを控えているという方が多いのではないかと思います。
This is understandable but by holding onto our faith and not speaking it out, we deprive others of hearing about the love of God and we deprive ourselves the chance to grow our faith.
もっともなことで、その気持ちはよくわかります。しかし、信仰に対し引け目を感じて、他の人々に神のことを話さないということは、神の愛について聞いて知る機会を他の人々から奪うことになりますし、また自分自身の信仰の成長の機会を妨げることになります。
There is power in speaking the Word of God.
神の御言葉を語ることに力があります。
There is power for salvation:
救いのための力があります。
The public declaration of our faith in Jesus is an important part of our salvation package.
イエスに対する自分の信仰について話をするということは、私たちの「救い」のための大切な役割を担います。
This is not to suggest salvation by works in any way but to show that those who really are saved are prepared and unashamed to publicly declare that Jesus is the Lord of their life.
救済、救いの仕業として「神のみ言葉を話しなさいよ」と提案をされているわけではありませんが、イエスが主であることを恥ずかしいと思わず公言している人々は、神によって、救われ備えられています。
There is power in speaking the Word of God.
神の御言葉を語ることに力があります。
There is power for breaking strongholds.
要塞を破る力があります。
Where sin goes deep, where injury goes deep, where confusion or doubt goes deep, the Word of God, spoken, goes deeper.
罪が深いところ、傷が深いところ、困惑や疑いが深いところに、神のみ言葉は話され、深く浸透していきます。
It brings forgiveness for sin, healing from injury, and peace and assurance where confusion or doubt had once been.
神のみ言葉は罪の許しをもたらします。傷を癒します。そして困惑と疑いがあったところに平和を約束してくれます。
Pray out the words of scripture when you pray because they are powerful.
あなたが祈る時に、聖書の聖句を用いて祈ってみてください。聖書の句は力を持っています。
Speak to one another with the words of the psalms and scriptures and spiritual songs because they edify and build faith.
詩篇の中に書かれているように、お互いに聖句を読みあい、聖歌を歌ってみてください。聖歌、神を讃える歌は、教えと信仰を強めてくれます。
There is power for building faith. The testimony of the Lord increases faith.
聖書の中の言葉には、信仰を強め、信仰を築く力があります。私たちが主に発する言葉は私たちの信仰を強めてくれます。
（信仰をたてあげる力があります。主の証は信仰を増します。）
When we recall what God has recorded of His works in the Bible and we share that with others, we contend for our faith.
聖書の中に書き留められた神の業を私たちがもう一度思い出す時、そしてその
神の仕業（しぎょう）を他の人々と分かち合うとき、私たちは自分の信仰を守るために立ち向かうことになります。
And when we share our own testimony of what the Holy Spirit is doing in our lives today, we build our faith. Understand what I mean by this.
聖霊が、私たちの人生にこんにちどのように働きかけているのかを、他の人々に証言したり分かち合ったりする時、私たちの信仰は強められます。他の人と分かち合うときに信仰が強まるという、この意味をどうかみなさんわかってください。
When we declare the Word of God we build our faith both in a personal sense and in a corporate sense.
神のみ言葉を話す時、私たちは自分にも、他の人にも信仰をさらに強く築くことができます。
Our personal faith grows as we share and the Christian Faith itself grows as we share.
神のみ言葉を分かち合えば分かち合うほど、神とあなたの信仰は深まり、クリスチャンとしての信仰も深まります。
Delight in taking the Word in and delight in taking the Word out.
御言葉を受け入れることを喜びとし、御言葉を人に伝えることを喜びとしましょう。
