Today for our final look at the Psalms we go back to the very beginning: Psalm 1 which talks about
今日で詩篇を読むのは最後になります。一番最初に書かれている詩篇１篇をみてみましょう。
次のことについて話していきたいと思います。
Happiness. 幸せ
I have a couple of very important questions to ask you:
二つの重大な質問をあなたにしたいと思います。
Who wants to be happy? And
幸せになりたいのは誰ですか？そして、
What makes you happy? (No theological answers please!)
何があなたを幸せにしてくれますか？（神学的な答えはしないでください。一般的な答えにしてください。）

It’s good to be happy.
幸せになることは大いに喜ばしいことです。
God wants us to be happy.
神様も私達が幸せになることを望んでいます。
And the issue of happiness is in fact the way that God starts off the Psalms:
幸せについては神様が詩篇の最初から書いておられます。
True Happiness
1 Happy are those
who reject the advice of evil people,
who do not follow the example of sinners
or join those who have no use for God.
2 Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord,
and they study it day and night.
1 悪しき者のはかりごとに歩まず、罪びとの道に立たず、あざける者の座にすわらぬ人はさいわいである。
2 このような人は主のおきてをよろこび、昼も夜もそのおきてを思う。
God teaches us here that there are two sources of happiness:神様は幸せの源は2つあると教えてくれています。次の二つがそうです。
Not doing what bad people do, and
悪者がしていることをしない
Loving what God says in the Bible.
神が聖書で言っていることを愛する
Let’s look at v2 here for now. ここで、２節をみてみましょう。
2 Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord,
and they study it day and night.
2 このような人は主のおきてをよろこび、昼も夜もそのおきてを思う。
It says that there is joy in obeying the law. Really?
ここでは、おきてや法律に従う事が喜びだと書かれています。本当でしょうか？
We don’t normally think of obeying laws as making us happy.
通常、掟に従う事がわたしたちを幸せにするなんて思いません。
They keep us safe but do laws really make us happy?
掟や、法律は私達の安全を守ってくれますが、幸せにはしてくれません。
Look at the 10 Commandments.
モーセの十戒をみてみましょう。
They’re a bunch of ‘don’ts’.
そこにはたくさんのしてはならないことが書かれています。
Good laws are for healthy living, sure, but we don’t normally associate them with personal happiness.
神の掟は健康的な生活をする為にあります。確かにそうでしょうけれども、実際のところは規律や掟を私達の幸せに結びつけているかというと、そうではありません。
But at the heart of the law is not the 10 ‘don’ts’.
しかし、「１０のしてはいけないこと」ということが、法律の本当の意義ではありません。
The heart of the law is to love God with all your heart and to love other people.
法律の本当の意味は、心より神を愛し、他の人々も愛するということです。
Living in godly love brings true happiness.
神の愛に生きることが真の幸せをもたらすのです。
But also, obeying God’s law is the best way to live.
神のおきてに従うことが最善の生き方です。
しかし同時に、神のおきてに従うことは最善の生き方でもあります。
We’re not just happier because we’re doing what God wants us to do—we’re happier because loving and obeying God’s Word makes our life better.
神が望んでいる事を実行しているから私達が幸せを感じるのではなく、神の言葉に従い、神を愛する事で私達の人生が良い人生となっていくことでさらに幸せを感じるのです。
Loving God and living a better life is what makes us happy, and both of those things come from knowing God’s law.
神を愛し、より良い人生を生きることが私たちを幸せにしてくれることであり、それは神のおきてを知ることから始まります。
Psalm 1 also talks about
詩篇１篇ではこう書かれています。
B. Goodness. 善
I have a couple of very important questions for you:ここで、大切な質問を２つしてみたいと思います。
Are you a good person or a bad person? あなたはいい人ですか、悪い人ですか？
(A good person is a person who has been made ‘good’ by Christ.)
（ここで言う良い人とはキリストによって「良き」と言われる人のことです。）
Are good people happy people?
いい人は幸せな人でしょうか？
Let’s look at v1 from Psalm 1 again:詩篇１篇の１節をもう一度みてみましょう。
1 Happy are those
who reject the advice of evil people,
who do not follow the example of sinners
or join those who have no use for God.
1 悪しき者のはかりごとに歩まず、罪びとの道に立たず、あざける者の座にすわらぬ人はさいわいである。
There is a lot of repetition in these verses, isn’t there?
この節では何度も何度も繰り返し言われていることがあります。
The writer says that a person is happy when they don’t
以下のことをしない人が幸せな人だとこの詩篇の著者は言います。
• listen to bad people 悪者の言うことを聞く
• do what bad people do, or 悪者がすることをする
• mix with people who reject God 神を拒む者と交流する
These three things are quite similar.
これらの三つの点は非常に似ています。
They basically mean, ‘Don’t hang out with bad people and do what they do’.
基本的には、どういうことかというと、「悪い人たちとは交わるな。悪い人たちと同じ事をするな。」という意味なのです。
Why is there so much repetition in the Psalms? [Open Question]
なぜ詩篇には同じことが何度も書かれているのでしょうか？
The repetition is for emphasis and also for art.
この繰り返しは強調するということとまた、芸術でもあります。
Poets make a point and then make it again in a stronger way or in a different way.
詩の中では、伝えたい観点を何度も、強調したり違う方法で伝えてみたりします。
The Psalms are both teaching for our lives and (at the same time) art for our enjoyment.
詩篇は私たちへの教義であり、それと同時に私たちが楽しむための芸術でもあるのです。
Now, we’re going to try this for ourselves.
さて、今から私達も同じようにこのことを試してみましょう。
‘Life teaching’ and ‘art’. We’re going to try writing our own Psalm.
「生涯の教え」と「芸術」。詩篇にあるような詩を自分たちで実際に書いてみましょう。
What are some things you think a good person shouldn’t do?
「良い人」がしてはいけないことは一体どんなことでしょうか？
Let’s make a list that repeats like Psalm 1:1?
詩篇１の１節のように、してはいけない事のリストを作ってそれを反復しましょう。
Let’s start with
では、始めましょう。
“Happy is the person who doesn’t . . . このような人は幸いである。それは、、
who doesn’t . . .その人は、、、。
or . . .または、、、。
And let’s finish with:そして、次のように締めくくりましょう。
Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord,
and they study it day and night. (Psalm 151!)
2 このような人は主のおきてをよろこび、昼も夜もそのおきてを思う。
So to live a happy life we should love what God says in the Bible, and
To live a good life, we should not live in the way that bad people live.
幸せな人生を送るには神が聖書で言っておられることを愛すること、
良き人生を送るには悪者が生きているように生きないこと。
Psalm 1 also talks about
詩篇１にはまた、こんなことも書かれています。
C. Fruitfulness. 実り
I have a couple more very important questions for you:
また、二つの重要な質問を聞きたいと思います。
Would you rather be a fruitful productive person or a useless, lazy blockhead?
実り多い人になりたいですか、それとも役に立たない怠け者になりたいですか？
2．How can we be fruitful, productive people?
どうすれば実り多い人になれるのでしょうか？
Let’s review the first two verses of Psalm 1 and then look at verse three for the answer to this very important question.
詩篇１の最初の２節をもう一度おさらいしましょう。そして、３節目をさっきの２つの大切な質問の答えとして考えてみましょう。
1 Happy are those
who reject the advice of evil people,
who do not follow the example of sinners
or join those who have no use for God.
2 Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord,
and they study it day and night.
3 They are like trees that grow beside a stream,
that bear fruit at the right time,
and whose leaves do not dry up.
They succeed in everything they do.
1 悪しき者のはかりごとに歩まず、罪びとの道に立たず、あざける者の座にすわらぬ人はさいわいである。
2 このような人は主のおきてをよろこび、昼も夜もそのおきてを思う。
3 このような人は流れのほとりに植えられた木の時が来ると実を結び、その葉もしぼまないように、そのなすところは皆栄える。
Have you ever tried to push over a big tree?
みなさんは今までに大きな木を動かしてみようとしたことはありますか？
Even if you push as hard as you possibly can, the tree won’t move, not even a little bit.
たとえどんなに頑張って押してみても、ほんの少しも、木は動かないでしょう。
In v3 here, the writer says that a person who meditates on God’s law is like a tree planted by streams of water.
３節では、「主のおきてをよろこび、昼も夜もそのおきてを思う。このような人は流れのほとりに植えられた木である」と書かれています。
A tree near water has the food that it needs to grow well. It grows and produces fruit.
水際にある木はよく成長する根が必要です。そして、成長し実をつけます。
But it’s also rooted in the ground and it does not move very easily.
しかし、それがゆえに地にしっかりと根をはり、簡単には動きません。
Reading and thinking about God’s Word gives us that kind of strength—the strength that comes from knowing that we will not be moved easily by people telling us the wrong things.
神の御言葉を読み考えることは、それはある意味強さであり、その強さとは、間違ったことを教える人たちによって私たちが簡単に動かされないことを知っていることから来る強さを与えてくれます。
Now chaff is something different. しかし、籾殻は違います。
Us city people don’t have much contact with chaff nowadays but ‘chaff’ sounds a bit like ‘fluff’ and that’s pretty much what it is.
私達のような都会に住む人々にはもみ殻を見る機会は、最近はほとんどありません。しかし、英語で「もみ殻-chaff」は「やわらかい-fluff」とにた音をしています。そして、実にその通りなのです。
Chaff is the husk around wheat that people want to get rid of before making bread.
もみ殻は麦の外側の殻のことで、パンを作ったりするのには必要のない捨ててしまう部分です。
Chaff is very light so when you throw the grain into the air, the chaff blows away and the good grain falls back into the basket. [image]
もみ殻はとても軽く、空気に放り出すと、もみ殻は吹き飛ばされて穀物だけが収穫のバスケットに収まるということになります。
Verse 4 tells us that４節は私達にこういっています。 bad people are like chaff. That is, they can easily be blown away with all kinds of funny ideas and temptations and plans.
悪者はまるでもみ殻のようである。まるで、籾殻のように、あらゆるおかしな考えや誘惑、たくらみに簡単に吹き飛ばされてしまいます。
So even though chaff and wheat actually look similar, they’re really very different.
ですから、いくら籾殻と小麦が見た目に似ていても、それらはとても違います。
People who read and know the Bible are like trees that can’t be moved even if they’re pushed very hard, and wicked people are easily blown away by a light breeze.
聖書を読み、聖書を知っている人は、強く押されても動かない木のようです。悪者は軽い風でも簡単に吹き飛ばされます。
Homework: Look around your neighborhood.
宿題：あなたの近隣、住んでいるところを見渡して見てください。
Find two things: things that are not easily moved and things that easily blow away.
簡単に動かないものと簡単に飛ばされてしまうもの、この２つを探してきてください。
When you see those things throughout the week, remember what Psalm 1 says about wicked people and about people who know and study God’s Word.
今週、その二つを探して来て、道徳にかけていて倫理観のない人と、神を知っていて神の言葉を学んでいる人について詩篇１篇ではどういわれているかを思い出してください。
Psalm 1 is all about the way of the righteous person.
詩篇１はすべて正しい人の道についてです。
A person is not made righteous by following the law.
法律を守ることによって義とされる人についてではありません。
Those who love and follow the law should be happy and have good character and be fruitful.
愛をもって、法や掟を守る人は幸せであり、よい性格をもっており、実り豊かな人です。
But they’re not made righteous by the law.
法律によって良い人になったわけではありません。
A person is made righteous by having faith in Jesus Christ.
人はイエス・キリストを信じることによって義とされます。
That’s the good news that the Bible teaches.
それが聖書が私達に教えてくれる福音です。
And people who have been made right in Jesus find their happiness, their character and their fruitfulness in avoiding the ways of bad people and in loving the God’s teaching in the Bible.
イエスにあって義とされた人は、悪者の道を避け、聖書にある神の教えを愛し、幸せと品性、実り豊かさを見つけます。
