明けましておめでとうございます。
And that’s what we all want, isn’t it? A happy, new year.
How do we get this?
幸せな新しい一年。それが私たちが望んでいること、全てですよね？
さて、どのようにして幸せな新しい一年を迎えることができるのでしょうか？
As Christian believers we know that God is the source of all true happiness. So, today, this first Sunday of the year, I’d like to look at how we can be right with God; how we can live in a way that truly pleases God and brings us happiness.
クリスチャンの私たちにすれば、神があらゆる真の幸福の源だということは知っています。
今日、新年最初の日曜日に、どのように私たちが心から神を喜ばし、幸福をもたらす生き方ができるかを見てみたいと思います。
The bottom line to Christian living is faith.
クリスチャン生活の肝心なことは信仰です。
Faith is a foundational position in our lives. 信仰は私たちの生活に欠かせない大切なものです。 Along with love and hope it is one of the ‘big three’ fruits of Christian living. 愛すること、希望をもつことに並んで、信仰を持つことはクリスチャンの生活に欠かせない三つの大きな恵み、成果の一つです。We are taught many times in the Bible that the righteous live by faith (Romans 1:17) 私たちは何度も聖書、ローマ人への手紙１章１７節の中で、 義人は信仰によって生きる と教えられています。
and that without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6).ヘブライ人への手紙１１章６節にも信仰がなくては、神に喜ばれることはできないと書かれています。
This morning, let’s look at 6 things that faith produces and 7 ways to build up our faith.
今朝は、信仰が生み出す6つのことと私たちの信仰を高める7つの方法をみてみましょう。
Faith produces perseverance. １つめ 信仰は忍耐を生み出すということ
You know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:3
あなたがたの知っているとおり、信仰がためされることによって、忍耐が生み出されるからである。ヤコブの手紙1:3
I like the way Rick Warren puts this:わたしはリックウォーレンのこのような表現が好きです。
Faith doesn’t always take you out of the problem. Faith often takes you through the problem. Faith doesn’t always take away the pain. Faith gives you the ability to handle the pain. Faith doesn’t take you out of the storm. Faith calms you in the midst of the storm.
信仰はあなたをを必ずしも問題から救ってくれるとはかぎりません。信仰は必ずしもあなたから苦しみを取り去ってくれるとはかぎりません。信仰はあなたにに苦しみに対処する力を与えてくれます。信仰は嵐からあなたを救ってくれるわけではありません。信仰はあなたを嵐の中でも冷静でいられるようにしてくれます。
Perseverance was one of the key issues that Jesus spoke of in His letters to the churches in the book of Revelation. 黙示録の中にこう書かれています。イエスが教会の人々に向けて書かれた手紙の中で、忍耐という言葉は重要なカギになっています。Many will give up the faith in the last days. We must persevere, and faith produces perseverance.たくさんの人々が最終的には信仰を持つことを諦めてしまう。しかし、わたしたちは耐えるべきである。そうすれば信仰は私たちに忍耐をもたらしてくれる。
2. Faith produces wisdom. ２つめ 信仰は知恵を生み出すということ
Faith is not blind or stupid. 信仰とは盲目的になったり愚かになったりすることではありません。 Faith is not reckless, fearful or timid. 信仰とは向こう見ずになったり、恐れを感じたり臆病になったりすることではありません。Faith is reasonable, evidence-based, trusting, and a source of wisdom. 信仰とは合理的であり、根拠に基づく、信頼性のある、知恵の源なのです。
The Holy Scriptures make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15
テモテ３章１５節 から
聖書は、キリスト・イエスに対する信仰によって救に至る知恵を、あなたに与えうる書物である。
3. Faith produces peace. ３つめ 信仰は平安を生み出すということ
This is much more than a feeling. 平安とは感情を超えたものです。It is a feeling but it is also a state of being. このことは平安という感情のことを話しているようですが、実はそのような事実を述べているのです。 Faith in God drives out all feelings of fear. 神への信仰は私たちの恐れる気持ちを全て司さどります。But Paul tells us in his letter to the Romans that becauseポールはローマ人の手紙の中でこういいました。 “we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. (Romans 5:1)
ローマ人への手紙５章１１節より わたしたちは、信仰によって義とされたのだから、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストにより、神に対して平和を得ている。
This means that we are at peace with God now because of Jesus’ victory on the cross. この意味は、神が十字架の上に勝利をえたので、今日わたしたちは平安や平和な気持ちをを神によって与えられているという意味です。As a result of our new status with with, we also feel His peace and find our rest when we draw near to Him. 結果、このことが私たちにもたらすものは、私たちが神に近づくけば近づくほど平和と安らぎの気持ちを感じることができるのです。
4. Faith produces access. ４つめは 信仰は近づく手段を生み出すということ
Once made right with God, we are not left on our own until we finally get to heaven. 一度私たちが神によって義となり救われたからと言って、私たちが、天国に行くその日まで自由にこの世に残されている訳ではありません。Faith leads us to relationship. 信仰が私たちを神との関係を続けさせてくれます。We walk with God as family, as friends.神と友達のように、また家族のように一緒に歩み続けていくのです。
We have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand (Romans 5:2)
ローマ人への手紙５章２節からです
わたしたちは、いま立っているこの恵みに信仰によって導き入れられた。
so that we can approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
ヘブライ人への手紙４章１６節から
だから、わたしたちは、あわれみを受け、また、恵みにあずかって時機を得た助けを受けるために、はばかることなく恵みの御座に近づこうではないか。
5. Faith produces works ５つめ 信仰ははたらきを生み出すということ
Faith is by nature active, not passive. 信仰とは受け身のものではなく、自然に生まれてくる行いです。 Faith leads us to act, not withdraw. 信仰は私たちを行動へと導くもの、消極的にさせるものではありません。In fact James tells us that 実際、ヤコブは２章の２６節で、このように言っています。 “faith without deeds is dead”. (James 2:26) 行いのない信仰は死んだものなのである。
This is key to Christian living. この言葉は、クリスチャン生活の重要なカギです。We know that we live in a broken world. 私たちは、私たちが、すでに壊れている世界にすんでいることを知っています。We know that our world is not as it should be and not as God originally intended it to be. 私たちは、私たちのこの世界が、神様が最初に作ろうとされた世界とは違っていることを知っています。 Knowing this is important. It helps us to understand sin and suffering. このことを知っているということが大切なことで、壊れた世の中の存在を知っていることによって、私たち自身の罪を理解することを助けてくれて、苦悩から救ってくれます。
But there is something very flawed and fatalistic about leaving our understanding at this point and saying ‘Oh well, there’s nothing we can do, we just have to live in a broken world’.
しかし、この時点で、もっと理解しようとすることをおざなりにし、「ああ、もう他に何も手だてはない。この壊れた世に私たちは生きるのしかないのだ。」というのは、何か、非常に間違っていて、宿命的でどうしようもないように思えます。
And the flaw is this: This understanding requires no faith. そして欠点はここです。このように「壊れた世の中だから」というような落胆した考えに信仰は必要ではありません。 It leads to inaction. そのような考えは怠惰を導きます。But faith produces deeds. Faith moves mountains. Faith produces miracles.
しかし、信仰は行いを生み出します。信仰は山を動かします。信仰は奇跡を生み出します。
6. Faith produces power ６つめ 信仰は力を生み出すということ
Faith releases the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. James writes that “prayers offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” James 5:15 信仰は精霊を放ち私たちの生涯にはたらきかけてくれます。ヤコブは５章の１５節でこのように書いています。信仰による祈は、病んでいる人を救い、そして、主はその人を立ちあがらせて下さる。かつ、その人が罪を犯していたなら、それもゆるされる。 ヤコブの手紙5:15
Faith produces the power to heal, the power to forgive and the power to continue the work of Christ in this world. 信仰は癒しの力、許しの力、クリスチャンとしてこの世に働き続ける力を生みます。
So, how do we build up our faith to see in our lives these things that faith can produce?
では、信仰が生み出すこれらのことを私たちのうちに見るには、信仰をどのように高めればいいのでしょうか？
7 things: 信仰を高める７つの方法があります。
Ask 求める １つめは求めるです。
That’s where it begins. まさにここから始まっています。 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
求めよ、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。捜せ、そうすれば、見いだすであろう。門をたたけ、そうすれば、あけてもらえるであろう。マタイ７章７節
This presumes perseverance in the matter. これは、おそらく何事においてもの忍耐をさしていると思われます。We are to ask, seek and knock for the Kingdom of God to be manifest in our lives. It starts simply by asking. 私たちは、そして、私たちの人生に、確かにある神の御国を求め、探し、訪ねるために存在しているのです。求めることから始まっているのです。
2. Test everything. ２つめは、すべてのものを識別する、です。
Don’t believe everything you see and hear. 見たり、聞いたりした物を全て信じないでください。 Don’t be fooled. Don’t be deceived. だまされてはいけません。 We are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 to “test everything” すべてのものを識別して(including what I say from the pulpit!). テサロニケ人への手紙の５章２１節ではこのように言われています。全てのものを識別しなさい。（私が、説教壇からみなさんに伝えることでさえ識別してください！） This is not to put God to the test. これは、神を試そうとしていることではありません。It is to test everything to be sure that it is of God and reliable and true. これは、全てのことが神からきていて、信憑性があって本当のことなのかどうかを見極めるということです。
3. Study 調べる ３つめは調べる です。
Study up on faith. 信仰について学びましょう。Knowledge builds faith. The testimony of others builds faith. 知識は信仰を高めます。人の証は信仰を高めます。 We have the Baseball Hall of fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and many other Halls of Fame. 野球の名誉選手たちををたたえる為の殿堂、ロックンロールの歌手をたたえる為の殿堂、その他の有名人をたたえるための殿堂があります。Hebrews 11 is popularly known as the ‘Faith Hall of Fame’. ヘブライ人への手紙１１章は著名な信仰者の殿堂として有名です。 Read it. 読んでみてください。 Study it (along with the other scriptures) to know what faith looks like. Then live like that! 信仰とはどんなものか知るために勉強してみてください、もちろん、他の箇所も読んで学んでくださいね。そして、読んで、そのように生きてみてください。
4. Stir up faith. 信仰をかき立てる ４つめは 信仰をかき立てる、です。
My juicing. 例えば、わたしのジュースを作りの日課のように。 Freshly squeezed juice is delicious and healthy. 新鮮な絞りたての果物のジュースはとても美味しくて、健康にいいですね。Leave it for a while and it starts to separate and go off. でも、新鮮な果物もしぼってからしばらく放っておくと、ジュースは分離してきて、古くなってしまいます。Before it gets to that state you have to stir it up. そんな状態になってしまう前に、かき混ぜなくてはなりません。 Faith is the same. 信仰も同じではないでしょうか？ Left alone, it starts to separate from the rest of our lives and starts to go off. しばらく放っておくと、私たちの世界から分離して、古くなってしまいます。 It’s Biblical to stir up our faith to keep it fresh and active.
信仰を新しく保ち生かし続けるために、信仰をかき立てることは聖書に基づいています。
2 Tim 1:6 “Fan into flame the gift of God”. 神の賜物を、燃えたたせなさい。
We do this through prayer, worship, fellowship, ministry and so on. これは、祈り、賛美、礼拝、伝道することによってできるようになります。
5. Be obedient. 従順である ５つめは従順である です。
Faith produces obedience but obedience also builds faith. 信仰は従順を生み出しますが従順も信仰を高めます。This is also key to Christian living. これも、クリスチャン生活には重要なカギです。Sitting in your room having a devotion can lead to great desires for faith. 部屋に座って、信心する時間を持つことは信仰への情熱 へ導いてくれることでしょう。But when we (sometimes fearfully) obey Jesus in doing His work ‘out there’ in the world, we see results that produce great faith for further ministry. でも、時には恐れを感じながらも、神の声に従い、神の仕業を世界に伝えることも、結果的には伝道するという大きな信仰をうむことになります。
6. Endure 耐え忍ぶ ６つめは耐え忍ぶ ということです。
Don’t give up. あきらめないでください。Merely enduring trials can build faith. ただ単に試練に耐え忍ぶだけで信仰が高まります。Looking back and saying ‘How did I get through that?!’ builds faith in God. 自分におこった出来事を顧みて、どうやってあの事態を解決することができたのだろうか？と思うことがあるかと思います。 We learn to trust him through our trials. そんなとき私たちは、私たちにおこった試練を通して神を信じることを学びます。 We learn to “trust in HIs unfailing love” because we’ve already seen it in action.私たちは神の無償の愛を信じるということを学びます、なぜなら神はすでに私たちに無償の愛を十字架にかかって見せてくれたのですから。
7. Be active in the church 教会に関わる ７つめは 教会に関わる ということです。
Inactivity in the church (or separateness from the church) can easily lead to compromise and doubt, and both of these destroy faith. 教会へ行かない、関わらない、離れて行くということはすぐに、しょうがないからと自分に言い訳したり、神を疑いだしたりすることにつながります。Active church involvement will help you to avoid false teaching, help you to learn how to serve, and build faith in the God we love.
積極的に教会に関わることで偽りの教えを避けることができ、どのように仕えるかを学び、私たちが愛する神に信仰をたてることができるのです。
Most of what we do in church requires no faith. 私たちが教会ですることのほとんどは信仰を必要としません。We could sing songs, talk about God, be friendly to one other without faith in God. 私たちは信仰がなくても、賛美の歌を歌うことも出来ますし、神様のことを話すこともできますし、他の人に親切にすることもできます。But that’s not the life we are called to. でも、このような人生のためにわたしたちの使命があるわけではありません。 The righteous shall live by faith. 義人は信仰によって生きる Faith takes us beyond what is natural, beyond what is normal and beyond what is comfortable for us and to a place where we have to rely on God because we cannot do it without Him. 信仰は私たちには自然なこと、普通のこと、快適なことをはるかに超えたところ、神なしではできないので神により頼まなければならないところへと導きます。
This year, let’s be sure to please God with our love and faithfulness to Him, and our love for one another. 今年は、神様を私たちの愛で喜ばせ、神に信仰を厚く持ちましょう。そして、他の人々にも私たちの愛を分かち合いましょう。
