Today we continue our summer in the Psalms.
今日も夏の詩篇の勉強を始めましょう。
Last week we looked at the famous, very beautiful and very reassuring Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd”.
先週は安心感を与えてくれるて、とても美しく書かれている詩篇２３篇を読みました。「神は私の羊飼い」と言うことを勉強しました。
Today we go to the other extreme and look at how to deal with life when God does not appear to be shepherding us and everything seems to be falling apart.
今日は全く正反対の事についてお話ししましょう。それは、神様が私達の羊飼いのようには見えないとき、私達の人生が何もかもうまくいかない、思いどうりにいかない時に、わたしたちはどうすればいいのかを考えていきましょう。
We do this through Psalm 88:
詩篇８８篇を通して考えていきましょう。

This is a very rare Psalm.
この８８篇は他の詩篇とはかなり違ったことが書かれています。
Many of the Psalms involve crying out to the Lord when there is trouble but nearly all of them end in hope.
詩篇の多くは何か問題があると主に救いを叫びますが、ほとんどが望みにつながります。
(Like Psalm 22…) They all end with a declaration that God is good, that He is our hope, and that He will deliver.
２２篇のように、詩篇のなかの全ての篇では、神は私達の望みであり、神は私達を支配してくださっている良き神であるという言い方で終わっています。
But not Psalm 88.
しかし詩篇88はそうではありません。
In Psalm 88, there seems to be nothing good, no hope, and no deliverance, all the way to the bitter end of the Psalm.
88篇では、どうでしょうか？神について何も良い事が書かれている様子はありません。何の希望もないし、救いもありません。すべて詩篇の終わりまで、つらく、苦しい事ばかりが書かれています。
I really wrestled with this.
私自身も本当に理解に苦しみます。
What kind of Psalm is this?
なんという詩篇なんだろう？
And when would you read it?
一体いつ読めばいいのだろうか？
To make a happy person sad?
幸せな人を悲しくさせる為に書かれたのだろうか？
To make a sad person utterly miserable?
悲しい人を完全に惨めにさせるためだろうか？
Why is this Psalm even in the Bible?
なぜこんな詩篇が聖書に存在するんだろうか？
Today I’d like to look at two things:
今日は二つのことについてみていきたいと思います。
Why is this Psalm in the Bible?
なぜこの詩篇が聖書にあるのでしょうか？
How are we to apply it in our lives?
この詩篇をどのように私達の人生に当てはめていけばいいのでしょうか？
Why is this Psalm in the Bible?
なぜこの詩篇が聖書にあるのでしょうか？
Because it acknowledges God and it’s honest.
神を認め神の正直さを認めるからです。
We live in a broken world and sometimes life stinks.
私達は壊れた世界に生きていて、私達の人生はどうしようもなく、いただけないからです。
And while we are always encouraged to look to God for our help,
私達が助けを神に求めるように励まされているにもかかわらず、
we are never called to live a life in denial of our troubles.
問題がないかのように否定して生きることは求められていません。
（人生には何も問題がないというように、否定して生きる必要はないということです。）
There are times when we will have trouble with our work,
しばしば職場で私達に問題がおこります。
trouble with our marriage, 私達の結婚に問題がおこります。
trouble with our kids, 私達の子どもに問題がおこります。
trouble with direction in life, 人生の指針に問題がおこります。
trouble with our finances, お金の問題がおこります。
trouble with our health, 健康に問題がおこります。
trouble with our faith, 信仰に問題がおこります。
trouble with temptation, 誘惑という問題もあります。
trouble with sin habits, 悪い癖が直らないという問題や、
trouble with our pride. プライドが高く傲慢になってしまうという問題があります。
And sometimes, like with this psalmist, it seems we have many if not all of these troubles at the same time.
そして、この詩篇の作者のように、時にはたくさんの問題、または、ありとあらゆる問題が
同時期におこって、
And we feel utterly weak and hopeless.
全く弱く絶望的に感じます。
（自分自身を弱く感じ、絶望的に感じてしまいます。）
Recently Prince Harry spoke about mental illness.
最近、イギリスのヘンリー王子が精神的な病のことについて話をしました。
He said mental illness is not a weakness.
彼は精神的な病は心の弱さでは決してないと言っています。
Not admitting that you have a mental illness and not speaking up about it is the weakness.
心の病を持っているのに否定し、心の病を持っている事を言えない、そのことが弱さであると言っています。
I’d like to paraphrase this in a spiritual context.
このことを霊的な状況に置き換えて、お話ししましょう。
Having trouble in life and struggling with faith doesn’t make you weak and hopeless.
生活に何らかの問題を抱え、信仰に問題があったとしても、そのことは、あなたを弱者にしたり、絶望に陥らせたりはしません。
Not admitting that you are struggling with your faith and not talking about it is the real weakness, and the real problem.
信仰に問題があることを認めず、そのことについて話さないことが本当の弱さであり、本当の問題です。
That’s what this Psalmist is doing in Psalm 88. He’s not faithless.
これは、詩篇８８篇の作者が言っていることと同じです。詩篇の終わりまで、すべてつらく、苦しい事ばかりが書かれていますが、彼は不誠実ではありません。
In verse 1 he declares that it’s God alone who saves.
８８篇の１節では、神のみが救う事ができると言っています。
But he’s admitting that his life is terribly broken and he’s expressing his desperate hardship to God.
しかし、同時にこうも言っています。彼の人生はとてもひどく破壊されており、苦難を神に訴えています。
So this Psalm is actually a model of honesty and integrity for us when we pray.
ですから、この詩篇は私達が祈るときに正直であり、誠実であるためのモデルです。
（ ですから、この詩篇は、私達が祈るときに正直であれ、誠実であれというお手本を示しているのです。）
So when you pray, be completely open and honest before God.
祈る時は神の前では何でも心のうちを打ち明けて、素直になりましょう。
Don’t just whine for the sake of whining, and know the importance of exalting God; understand how praise restores a righteous perspective.
不満ばかりを言うのではなく、神の存在の大切さを知りましょう。神を賛美すると、物事が正義の方向に向かうように修復してくださいます。
But when you’re having trouble, don’t hold back on letting God know about it.
しかし問題を抱えているときは、それを神から隠さないでください。
2. (How we are to apply this psalm in our lives?)
（詩篇をどのように私達の人生に当てはめていくか？）
So, understanding this, where do we go from here?
では、このことをふまえた上で、私達はどうすればいいのでしょうか？
How are we to apply this Psalm in our lives, other than with the general teaching of ‘be honest with God’?
「神の前では正直になりなさい」という一般的な教え以外に、どのように詩篇を私達の人生に取り入れればいいのでしょうか？
How are we to find our hope and deliverance in this Psalm?
私達の希望と救いを詩篇のなかにどのように見つけることができるのでしょうか？
In short, we can’t. So what are we to do?
手短にいうと、みつけることはできません。では、どうしたらいいのでしょうか？
Here’s the key: カギはこういうことです。
take a broader perspective. より幅広い観点でとらえることです。
This Psalm isn’t the whole Bible.
詩篇だけが聖書にかかれているわけではありません。
This Psalm isn’t even the whole of the Psalms, or even one of the five books of the Psalms.
この８８編が詩篇の全てだというわけではありません。しかも、詩篇の中の主な５つの書のひとつでもありません。
It’s just one Psalm.
ただ、ひとつの篇にすぎません。
Let’s look and see what Psalm 87 says on one side, and what Psalm 89 says on the other.
では、詩篇８７篇がなんと言っているかみてみましょう。その後、８９篇もみてみましょう。

What is this Psalm talking about?
詩篇８７篇は何といっているのでしょうか？
It’s a bunch of names and places we’ve never heard of. How is this of any help to us?
たくさんの、聞いた事もない名前と場所の名前です。これが私達の何の助けになるというのでしょうか？
This Psalm is actually a very beautiful Psalm of hope and deliverance in the big picture sense. この詩篇は全体像を見る点で、希望と解放の美しい詩篇です。
It talks – to the Jewish nation – about how people from all of the countries and regions that were Israel’s enemies will in the future come to Zion and become God’s people.
このことはユダヤ人にこう言っています。イスラエルの敵であった他の国々や他の地域の人々が、将来的にはザイオンにやってきて神の民になるだろう、と言っているのです。
v6 The Lord will write in the register of the peoples: “This one was born in Zion.”
(“This Filipino was born in my city…”)
主は人々を「この人はザイオンに生まれた。」と書き記していくと言っています。
「このフィリピン人は神の街で生まれた」「このドイツ人は神の街で生まれた」というふうに、、、。
This was declared to show a great and glorious future.
このことは、素晴らしい栄光の未来が待っている事をあらわしています。
None of it could be seen in its day.
当時は、これからおこる栄光の未来に対して何の予兆もありませんでした。
With a narrow perspective, this love and joy and deliverance couldn’t be seen.
考えが狭すぎると、「栄光の未来」と言われている愛と喜びと助けは見られることはできません。
It could only be seen by looking to an eternal God who is from everlasting to everlasting.
とこしえの永遠の神を見ることによってのみ見られるのです。
This is very good and important for looking at the big picture.
とてもよいことですし、全体像を見るという事は大切な事です。
But what about today?
しかしこんにちはどうでしょうか？
What about those who are struggling with today and what lies ahead tomorrow and next week and next month?
こんにち、困難に直面している人はどうでしょうか、そして明日、来週、または来月はどんなことが待ち受けているのでしょうか？
Didn’t Jesus say that we are worth more than many sparrows and that God’s mercies are new every morning?
マタイによる福音書にあるように、私達は神様にとってツバメよりも貴重な存在で、イエス様は毎朝あらたな奇跡が私達におこると約束してくれたのではなかったでしょうか？
Let’s look at Psalm 89. (It’s longer so just a few verses.)
詩篇の８９篇をみてみましょう。長くなるので、２、３節だけみていきます。
vv1,2 I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
vv 14-18 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.
16 They rejoice in your name all day long;
they celebrate your righteousness.
17 For you are their glory and strength,
and by your favor you exalt our horn.
18 Indeed, our shield belongs to the Lord,
our king to the Holy One of Israel.
50-52 (closing verses)
Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked,
how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
51 the taunts with which your enemies, Lord, have mocked,
with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.
52 Praise be to the Lord forever!
Amen and Amen.
Despite expressing life and death troubles, this Psalm gives praise to God.
生と死による様々な問題を表現しているにも関わらず、この詩篇は神をこんなにも賛美しています。
In the face of such troubles, why?
そんな困難に直面していてもなぜそこまで賛美することができるのでしょうか？
Because it acknowledges God for who He really is: it declares His faithfulness, it sings of His righteousness, justice, glory, strength, favour and protection.
なぜなら神がどんなお方であるかをよく知っているからです。ここでは神の誠実さを述べ、神の義と裁き、栄光、力、好意、そして庇護／守り、をうたっているのです。
[God is faithful, righteous, just, glorious, strong, favouring and protecting.]
神は誠実で、義なるお方、公正で、栄光に輝き、力のある、好意ある、守ってくださるお方
The broader perspective of Psalm 88 – even just one psalm on either side – tells us of a great God, with a great love who is worthy of our trust.
詩篇８８篇の、また８８篇の前後の篇からも、より広い観点から私達の信頼に値する大きな愛のある偉大な神のことが分かります。
And when we consider the grander perspective of the whole Bible – the whole plan of redemption, forgiveness, salvation, presence, empowerment and eternal life – we see the true meaning of ‘good’ and we see a God who is worthy of our trust, worthy of our worship and who gives us hope for today.
聖書全体のより広い観点を考えたとき、罪の贖い、許し、救い、存在、権限を持つこと、そして永遠の命ー「良き」という語の本当の意味をみることができますし、神は私達の信頼、賛美に値する神であり、こんにち私達に希望を与えてくれる神であるということがわかります。
We also remember in the grander perspective of the teaching of Jesus (and our theme in church for this year), ‘Your Kingdom come’. We don’t just gaman with a broader perspective and a hope for the distant future. Rather, we are active in bringing God’s kingdom to the earth today.
また、より広い観点からみたイエス様の教え、「御国がきますように」という教えを私達は忘れてはならないと思います。それは「御国がきますように」という私達の教会の今年の教えのテーマでもありました。広い視野を持ち、その先にある将来に希望をもちながら、ただ我慢をするだけではありません。むしろ、神の御国をもたらす事をこの地上に働きかけましょう。
So I say to you who are struggling,
ですから、困難に直面している人に言いたいと思います。
don’t give up, don’t beat yourself up, don’t stop trusting in God. There are always blessings to be counted now. Always remember the bigger picture of God’s love while seeking deliverance from your current troubles.
あきらめないでください。自分を責めないでください。神を信頼することをやめないでください。
どんな時でも、こんにちの困難、災いからの救いを求めているときは、神の愛のより大きな全体像を忘れないでください。
And remember, the Lord is still your shepherd who promises that you shall lack nothing, who makes you lie down in green pastures, who leads you beside quiet waters, and who restores your soul.
主はあなたの羊飼いであり、あなたに欠けているものは何もないことを約束してくれていて、あなたをみどりの草原に寝かせてくれて、静かに流れる水のそばまで連れて行ってくれて、あなたの魂を回復させてくださるということを忘れないでください。
